Except for the first person POV, this entire story could easily have been taken for something from the pages of HoME or UT! You have maintained that unmistakeable tone of "high" speech, yet neither overly flowery or archaic, throughout! And it's beautiful characterization as well, showing the gleam of nobility in Isildur and his heir, even as they struggle with the blandishments of the Ring.

Oh, what a mess. A great depiction of the classic Ring temptation. I'm sure it tried its luck with everyone it came across. (*Too bad they didn't get as far as Thranduil.*) Author Reply: *very sheepishly replies a year later* Thank you, sweets, yes, the Ring does seem to get around ;-) *shudder* I don't even what to imagine what it would have done with Thranduil, though one has to wonder if it could reach as far as Mirkwood whilst it sat there in the river for several hundred years. Likely not, but it's a curious thought.
