| I had to pause in my reading and leave a brief note regarding this chapter. Legolas' loneliness comes through so strongly in your writing, that I couldn't help but empathize with him. The fact that he is immortal, and his friends are not, seems to resonate in a special way for him. He is acutely aware that he will outlive Aragorn, Gimli, and the others...yet he still binds his fate to theirs without regret. | |

| "'A goat!' exclaimed Bandobras indignantly, giving a mushroom a vicious stab with his fork. "The nerve! And I thought he was a gentleman.'" Legolas Thranduilion, stalking goat! What a great image. I love Bandy's indignation. ". . .– just so the knights won't think you're trying to nick the best girls along with the grand prize." The idea of Legolas "trying to nick the best girls" had me rolling on the floor. Also, loved the interaction with the trees, especially his sorrow at being unable to help the hollies as the thugs crash through them. And, the naked wood-elf for a holiday gift! | Oh, I think it'll be much more than just fifty percent who get a kick out of this naked Wood-elf. My goodness, what a lovely holiday present. And I just loved Legolas' run through the trees, with or without clothes. So nice to see him acting as he wishes, away from the constraints of the mortal court. I also enjoyed seeing Bandobras be more assertive. The descriptions are, as always, just phenomenal. The wind flapping the tent like a sail -- perfect. And Gimli's worry about the sea longing was a lovely touch. Marvelous, marvelous interaction with Legolas and the forest, and beautiful descriptions of him -- "still and white as a shaft of moonlight athwart a marble column." Beautiful. I don't think that the maidens would be as scrupulous as Bandy believes -- goodness knows I wouldn't. But it doesn't matter, because we got out of the tent and into some intrigue. | As soon as he went sneaking out like he wasn't supposed to, I knew he either had to see something or be seen. Thankfully it was the former (especially in the given circumstances). o_O Yike, more trouble. I'll bet Aragorn and Faramir will want his head for being out and about (and unarmed, something I'm sure his father would frown upon), but won't be able to do much about it considering this fortuitous bit of eavesdropping. | |
