So the Ring already finds ways to tempt Aragorn through his desire to protect others, and Frodo cannot bear to trust the Ring to fire, although doing so might have saved him much pain.
Author Reply: Just watching Gandalf throw the Ring into Bag End's small hearthfire must have been agony for Frodo! |

| You pack so much information into this little chapter: I love that Merry is always thinking--his idea about the Ring might have been a good one, if only Frodo could have brought himself to it; Aragorn with the pipe Frodo made him, so sweet; the information that fire would help keep the Wraiths away (one of my beefs with the film)all of this without it seeming strained in any way. |
