Shire: Beginnings  by Lindelea 2 Review(s)

I love the idea of the ladies bonding and healing over yarn and knitting and quiet chats by the fire. What a perfect place for them to bring and children and spend their time.

Author Reply: I think a lot of the details of the setting and opportunities quietly left open to (rather than forced upon) the hobbits reflect Elrond's gift of observation and his healer's instincts. I think it was Bilbo who described the Last Homely House as the perfect place, no matter what you wanted to do. (I just looked it up, and yes, he did.) And JRRT goes on to say, "Merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness."

What a nice explanation of the hobbit's observance of Yule! And I'm so glad they are healing and finding joy in the Last Homely House!

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked it! Yule is certainly a time when Light and Darkness take on a special focus and meaning.

Wouldn't it be lovely to be able to visit the Last Homely House sometime? (I might never leave, though.)
