| You'll have to excuse me while I get hold of myself. I always cry during hobbit stories, and I managed to hold out until “Sam, my boy, have I ever told you how proud you’ve made me?”, at which point I completely lost it. This was heartbreaking, and absolutely beautiful. The whole conversation between the Gaffer and Sam was amazing, and the end was fabulous. This chapter blew me out of the water, and I am almost afraid to go on, but I will because the story is beautiful, and you have written it so well. | |

| Oh my goodness, these are *so* beautiful. And heartbreaking. I had tears in my eyes the whole time I was reading. I can't really put into words how beautiful these three vignettes were. | Oh, waaaaaah! I *love* the Gaffer! How very, very sad. Poor Sam... but at least he had Rosie and the rest of his family to comfort him. *sigh* Looking forward to more! Author Reply: The Gaffer has also been one of my favourites! He seems to be so wise, and a little sly, too. I can't say that I enjoyed killing him off - nor any of the parents in these stories. But I am trying to make sure that everyone had someone to be there for them in their time of sadness. I suppose that's what these stories are really all about! | I like how Sam tried to put on a brave face when he spoke to his Dad. I also liked that he told him he was proud of him. Good for Frodo to make sure he knew all that Sam had done on their Journey! | These are sad, and yet not. They have all been full of love and compassion. Tender tales of a moment we all must face. Wonderful! These shine, little sister. | I really appreciate the little details you come up with! Such as... "You know as well as I, that a Gamgee never breaks a promise." "Well, Mister Bilbo managed to beat the Old Took in age, and Mister Merry and Mister Pippin have beaten the Bullroarer in height. I have to break some record!" And such a sweeeet ending. Author Reply: Thank you! The ending was actually an after thought! And I even changed the title because of it. This chapter was the original idea from which the "series" was born. Thanks again :) | |
