Once-elves and ugly dogs and not-humans, oh my! This was the most amusing chapter, yet. Loved poor, not scared, but cold Asfaloth. The merry elves in the tree were a wonderful (and rare in fanfiction) touch; very Hobbitty those elves were. Good job. :-) Author Reply: Mae govannen, LKK, and thank you for the precioussss review! Well, he is Asfaloth of the Cunning Mind, so he can't be scared. *Asfaloth is heard muttering, "I was just COLD! How dare LKK insinuate that I was scared? Evil human!"* I'm glad you liked Meglin and Alquandil. They were supposed to be Hobbitty, but I hoped they weren't just plain silly. Apparently, they fit, so thank you. *mutters* "The Hobbit" is underrated. It is my duty to bring it's neglected peoples and places to light. ;D

Ah, love the new chapter! There are many things I liked about it, such as Asfaloth's mother telling him what happened to colts who wondered from their mothers (that was clever) and I loved Meglin's song (I sing the version from The Hobbit all the time to my family's annoyance) so, uh, I guess seeing a version of it here was enlightening. I would like to especially point out that when Glorfindel spotted Meglin, Meglin acted like the perfect 'merry Elf' from The Hobbit. Author Reply: Oh, good! Thank you very much! The idea about Asfaloth's mother was spawned in "Flight to the Ford" when Asfaloth mentions he'd heard tales about how awful the Ringwraiths were. I didn't really intend for it to be in "An Elf's Best Friend," it just sort of wormed it's way in on it's own. *shakes head* Plotbunnies! ;) I'm glad you liked Meglin's song, too, because actually (*sheepish grin*), I'm rather fond of singing the songs from LotR myself, and even though I don't sing that particular one from The Hobbit (I don't know a tune for it, but I kind of chant it on occasion), it is probably my favorite one. Good for you! It's a great song! It wasn't supposed to be in the story either, but when you have a most insistent plotbunny with it's teeth sunk in your chin, it's kind of hard to ignore. ;) I am most complemented. I don't think "The Hobbit" is given enough attention among LotR fanfiction writers, especially the elves in it, so I'm glad I was able to pull it off. As I mentioned, I really like that song in The Hobbit, but I also like that whole scene and that portrayal of the elves. Hmph! Too much elves mourning the passing of their kindred, and not enough elves teasing dwarves and singing silly songs. :D And before I talk any further, thank you very much for the very nice review, and if you liked the song in this chapter, I hope you enjoy the next chapter. *smirks mysteriously and refuses to say more*
