I have always been pained by this 'choice' that the Valar have given - you have expressed it beautifully. Author Reply: I don't think that the 'gift' of the Valar was a gift at all - more of a dreadful burden :(

Great Drabble! I'm lucky I read this at home, it almost made me cry. I'm glad Elrond was their at the end for his twin. It would have been about them as brothers and nothing else. I could barely imagine what that would have done to him as the one left behind. I always wondered what happened between them. I don't think Tolkien ever said. Maybe sometime you could tell that story. Author Reply: This was the very first drabble I ever wrote, and I think if I did it now, there's things I change. The central theme, though, that these are not kings or lords, but just twins, wouldn't change.

Cool Very cool. If I'm repeating myself, I apologize. Author Reply: Don't apologize! I'm glad you're reading these.

I like the idea that Elrond was with Elros at the time. (I know that sounds morbid, but I hope you understand.) I think it helped both brothers accept their fates. And you're right; the moment would have been between brothers not between king of men and elf lord. Very touching, Jay. Author Reply: This is one of the areas Tolkien never told us about - what happened between Elrond and Elros? I imagine Elladan and Elrohir as very close, so it seems strange that their father chose a different fate to his twin. Glad you lked this. Jay
