Awww...this was funny and bittersweet at the same time! Poor Sam...lol. Wonderful character descriptions...I'm guilty for not doing them as much. btw--I do have a boating story, but won't be bringing it to SOA for a long while; it needs repair. Thoroughly enjoyed this! :-) Pippinfan Author Reply: Oh, good! We get to mess about it in boat with you in the future. I shall look forward to it, but don't mention it to poor Sam as he seems to have had quite enough boating for a while. Thanks for reading.

"Oh, but Sam, you will love the river," Pippin said, joining in now. "Everyone says that only Bucklanders like the river and boating but it isn’t true at all. I love going out in Merry’s boat and it is ever so safe." - Grey Wonderer Famous last words! I'll tell you why when I'm done with the story... Pippinfan Author Reply: Done it again, have we? LOL Can't wait to read what you have this time. I shall look forward to it. Thanks for the reviews! I shall be watching my alerts for your boat story.

Poor, poor Sam! I would have hated to be in his place in the boat. :P As usual, it was truly a pleasure to read one of your stories! Author Reply: Thank you so much for your kind words. I tried something a bit different with this one and that always makes me nervous. It is wonderful to hear that someone enjoyed it!

Poor, poor Sam! I was glad to see that you also had Fatty as part of the story, there aren't many stories with him and you wrote him wonderfully laid back and kind. I like how Merry is going to kill Pippin and then Frodo has it in for the both of them but they eventually get turned over to Saradoc! Grat fun the whole thing you wrote it witht he perfect humor! Thank you! Author Reply: What a lovely review! So glad you enjoyed this little story. I am also glad to hear that the humor in it came through. Sometimes, at 3am things seem funnier than they really are, so I am glad that it worked.

Hmm, Sam should thank Pippin for taking him on boat that day. Otherwise, he would not be as brave when joining the fellowship rowing along the Anduin. But Pippin really need some lessons for his snake! Author Reply: Thanks for reading and reviewing. I don't thik Sam felt much like giving Pippin a thank you at that point, but you may be right. Poor Sam did not enjy his boating experience in this one at all. I don't think Pippin's snake was much help either. LOL Thanks for this lovely review.

Oh, you had me grinning the whole way through this story! I loved it. However, I will admit, when I started reading it, I wondered why you had Sam on the Brandywine at all, but when I took out my faithful copy of "Fellowship", I'm certain I couldn't find anything saying that Sam had never been to Buckland (it must have just been a movie-thing). One thing I really like in stories, is when the author links an event that happened before the journey and links it with something that happened during of after the War of the Ring, so I really loved the ending of this. That explains the boating arrangement, now, doesn't it :P I really loved the mental-picture of irrate Sam. I'm sure it doesn't happen much, but when he gets angry, it's sure to be terrifying. :) Author Reply: So glad you enjoyed this. I checked around in the material that I had and couldn't find a reason not to put Sam on the river and so I decided to give it a try. I may have been pushing the canon issue again, but that seems to happen with me. LOL I had seen lots of Sam goes fishing stories in the past and so I just thought he might like to fish on the Brandywine with Mister Frodo from time to time. I also enjoy when the past and the present come together in these stories. Gives the characters a shared history and in this case it gave Sam a very good reason to avoid Merry and Pippin's boat! I think when you manage to make someone as good-natured as Sam angry, that you have really made a mess of things and I do think that Merry and Pippin were more than up to the task. Thank you for the review!

What a great story! The last line was hilarious! From the beginning to the end it created a great visual picture and I felt so sorry for poor Sam! Also loved Fredegar's character, especially the line, "Not really. I just thought that one of us should try to make the other one feel better," Fredegar said. I have SO felt that way before it was perfect! I also liked the fact you included the quote from the Wind in the Willows, it was one of my favorite stories when I was younger! Another great story from you! (And once again you managed to get Bilbo in there:)) Loved it! Author Reply: Thanks you so much! Happy to see that it gave you a laugh. I started to make this continue a bit, but thought ending it with Sam's line was the way to go. Glad that it worked. Also very glad to hear that you are a "Wind In The Willows" fan. I have always loved that book! Still have my original copy of it in fact. As to Fredegar's line, I feel that way most of the time! LOL Oh, and yes, Bilbo did manage to creep into this and I even got Gloin a mention which was fun.

Oh, that was lovely. Pippin was behaving just the way I thought he should and THANK YOU for having Sam and Frodo get so angry about it! And you included Freddy! Hooray! What fun. But the last line is what makes the story perfect. Thank you! Author Reply: Thank you! I always thought it was odd that Sam and Frodo never lost patience with Merry and Pippin. I thought Sam had every right to be angry and maybe even a bit put out with Frodo for sending him off in that boat with Merry and Pippin to begin with while he was safe on the shore. LOL As to Freddy, I do like to include him and he usually gets a mention or two at least in my stories. I am so glad that you enjoyed it. As to the last line, I just knew that Sam would want to give Boromir a word of warning, because that would be so like Sam.

Absolutely delightful! I could see each and every moment play out as you described it--Pip could be a holy terror sometimes! And the bit at the end where Sam does not wish to ride with Merry and Pippin on the Anduin was priceless. ( loved the bit of Pippin smacking Gimli with the oar, though I don't suppose poor Gimli did.) I hope that Frodo regaled the Fellowship with that story around the campfire later. M & P would have deserved it! ( By the way--what did Saradoc do to them? ) And I thoroughly approve of your inspiration. WITW is a favorite of mine. I don't re-read it as often as Tolkien, but every two or three years I give it another go. Author Reply: Thank you for the lovely review. I am very glad that you enjoyed this one. Of the reviews that I have gotten on this one, seems "Wind In The Willows" had lots of fans. I loved it and it was the first book that I purchased with my own money as a child. I am sure that Frodo will get around to telling this one the first chance that he gets if Sam doesn't beat him to it! I now owe Sam a happy story as I have terrorized him in this one with the help of Merry and Pippin. As to Saradoc, I am quite sure that he gave them both what they deserved. Thanks for reading and for reviewing.
