Great story. I had never really thought of it this way before- that Denethor is as much a victim as anyone else.

I really loved this. Gandalf must have one of the most interesting stories of all, and yet he is so rarely heard. And the hobbit intrusion brings balance.

Wow, that was great the way you wrote from Gandalf's POV! I had never thought about hime feeling guilty taht Denethor parished, but I guess being the noble wizard he is it would be natural. It was very good, thank you! Author Reply: I'm very glad you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for reading.

Denethor watched his sons die over and over again until he found it better to burn than live a moment longer. The man could not live with everything he ever knew lost, with everyone he ever loved destroyed. Well-written. You used the style that PoTD has, and it works brilliantly. I can never imagine an eloquently angsting Gandalf. The short, crisp almost painfully precise prose (Alliteration?;}) is the real winner here. And as is befitting, the end is without hope, but not without redemption. Narya at work, perhaps? I really did like it, despite the hobbit intrusion. :) Author Reply: I love your alliteration. Sorry 'bout the hobbits. They just show up. ; ) I'm glad you liked it. Thanks so much for commenting and offering your insight. I appreciate it.

Wonderful. What a beautifully written piece! "Somewhere under the eastern pall, the fate of the world swings upon on a golden chain." You truly bring us into the heart and mind of Gandalf; I've never seen it done better. Author Reply: Why, thank you so much! You are kind to say so and I appreciate the time you took to read.
