The poor child--a boy trying to eat to Hobbit standards! Heh!

Author Reply: Unfortunately, not a task he is capable of. But he was trying to be polite, LOL!

Poor Bergil! The poor lad had no idea how to still be polite while refusing so much food. I imagine he will keep a closer eye on the Elf's plate from now on as a measure of the portions he should eat. Your descriptions of his awkward situation were just wonderful!

It's so interesting to see A Different Kind of Quest discussed with one who was not there, such as Esmeralda. I always like when you mention something from one of your other stories!

Poor Bilbo, feeling the length of his years at last. I don't think he is ever far from Frodo's thoughts.

It's a good thing that this is but a brief period in Legolas' life. Having to endure all of the hobbit lasses drooling over him - lol! Not that I blame them, mind you. He must be something special at that for Pippin to want him for his brother-in-law! lol!

I'm so glad I was finally able to get back to this story!

Author Reply: Yes, poor Bergil! He really was trying to be polite, and not to give offense, and his poor little tummy just wasn't up to hobbit-capacity.

You know, I think, if I remember right, this was written *before* the other story, or perhaps alongside it. But of course, most all of them are rather tied together.

No, Bilbo is never any farther from Frodo's thoughts than his other loved ones. It was a pivotal relationship in his life, and would always be in his mind.

Poor Legolas, indeed. He's so pretty, I can't resist giving him a hard time, LOL!

I'm glad you are, too! I always get a kick out of seeing the Review Alerts from your reviews!

“Bergil? Are you all right?”

He sat up slowly, clutching his middle. “Mistress Brandybuck? I don’t feel so well. I think I ate too much.”

(snorts a laugh) I shouldn't be laughing at Bergil's misfortune...but--how did I know this was going to happen? I am so looking forward to the rest of Bergil's visit--poor kid.

LOL!! And Legolas is still charming the lasses, eh? No way--does Pearl fall for him?? Well...don't answer that one. ;-) I am really enjoying this tale! Thanks for sharing!

Author Reply: Yes, I fairly well telegraphed that one, didn't I? LOL! But I figured it was just the kind of mishap that might happen to a well-mannered child among hobbits for the first time.

I'm afraid I really had a good time at Legolas' expense. I'm very fond of the Elf, really I am, but the whole idea that he's irresistable to females is just too funny to ignore.

Good gracious. Poor Legolas! Poor Bergil! Pippin *would* want Legolas to be his brother-in-law, wouldn't he! I can just imagine the wedding >.< And Bergil will know from now not to underestimate the appetite of a hobbit.

You're going to have me chuckling for hours about that comment referring to Legolas and dwarvish women :D

Author Reply: I just could not resist twitting Legolas. The Elf is such an exotic creature, and I could just imagine all those adoring hobbit eyes upon him. And whatever happened at the Lonely Mountain, rest assured Gimli will never let him forget it.

And even though Pippin was joking,he probably would like to have Legolas in the family. And they *are* Tooks.

Poor Legolas! It's so hard being pretty. He can't go anywhere without getting harassed. lol

It is interesting that the smaller the creature the more they can eat. I feel sorry for Bergil. He's going to be stuffed for at least a day, if he doesn't spew his guts that is. I'm sure the expression "I ate too much" isn't one they're used to hearing in the Shire.

I loved all the snippets of conversation during the dinner, as well as the brief mention that Frodo is still feeling the affects of his ordeal. Those little hints and signs become more evident as time passes, but for now Frodo's still trying to regain his life, though he knows he mostly likely will never be able to do so.

Wonderful job as always.

Author Reply: I couldn't resist giving Legolas a hard time. I could just imagine all those hobbit lasses gazing adoringly.

Poor Bergil. But don't worry, he's in Esmerelda's capable hands.

I'm glad you enjoyed the dinner conversations. I like to do things with little bits and pieces, so that you can imagine what went before and after.

According to JRRT, Frodo went downhill after each anniversary illness, in October and in March; each was worse than the last; but during his first year home, he still thought he might be able to recover.

I think it was so very cute that Bergil had trouble eating enough to please the hobbits. I am glad he is included in your story as I have always liked him.

Author Reply: I always liked him, too. That's why he is included.8-) When he was playing host to Pippin in Minas Tirith he was on his home turf, and a bit more sure of himself. He's a very polite child--he'd have to be, being raised in the formal atmosphere of Minas Tirith, and with a father in the military, so to speak. And he is on an official mission, included among adults, which is also going to make him feel serious and grown up. But he is still just a little boy, and hobbits are just the people to help him realize this.
