Leave it to Merry to find a way with Pippin. {Pimpernel rose from her own chair to stand next to her mother and drew her long braid streaked with sand- and tea-colored curls over her shoulder.} I loved that discription. You have a wonderful style and this is a very good story. I am wondering about something that happened in an earlier chapter though, regarding Fern, whom I found very enjoyable by the way. She is a nice OC with her own thoughts and concerns. Very likeable, but this line from chapter 2, { Fern used the fine fabric to muffle the cough that had finally escaped.} I was wondering if her actions had anything to do with current events? I know Pippin was ill before that but he did seem to be getting better. I will be looking forward to more of this story. Author Reply: Thank you! That description came about because my sister always hated it when people called that hair color "dishwater blond." I had to think of something else in case she ever reads this.;) Glad you liked Fern, too. You are a discerning reader. (She started out as a plot device and then gave herself a character--*I* certainly wasn't the one planning to write all her interior monologue in dialect.) You are correct that Pippin had been ill but was getting better when his mother had him in the garden, but he had not yet recovered his full strength, so it was easy for him to get very badly sick again when exposed to Fern's germs through the blanket. (BTW, (F)ern and her brother 'Bert are an homage to another great fictional duo who are in some ways reminiscent of Merry and Pip.) | |
