Interlude In Imladris  by Jay of Lasgalen 6 Review(s)

Ah, I love how my Lord Elrond is constantly and gently persuading his elflings (and Estel) to sleep with his potions! *g* Not that I don't think he enjoys a little well-deserved revenge for them constantly scaring a thousand years off his life!:) Anyway, did a dance when I saw this story and "Memory..." updated this morning...you have been a busy little writer, haven't you? *3 cheers for jay!!!* But this chapter was great...after suffering knowing Legolas had been knocked into next week, I was quite relieved that his injuries were not as severe as imagination could make them. ;) I was very sad about Linhir, tho', and very glad one of those trolls got another well deserved arrow to the mouth, while the other turned to stone with the sun (but when he grabbed one of the twins...*shudder*... and turned to stone with a piece of his sleeve in his paw....scary!) And I thought they would never find Legolas....they needed our help, didn't they...we could find that elf in a heartbeat! *vbg* Wonderful stuff...update soon! Now on to "Memory..."

Author Reply: I think I'm falling into the fanfiction trap of making Elrond too 'potion happy' - he's a responsible healer, and wouldn't drug for the sake of it. (Mind you, his sons and Legolas deserve it!)

Legolas is not going to bounce back from this immediately, so your imagination wasn't far out.

Oh that wonderful elven sleeping draught. I wish I had some when I get a migraine - I don't care how bitter it is
Another wonderfully exciting ch - I liked the bit about not getting stuck when the trolls turned to stone - painful!
Thanks
Rose

Author Reply: Sometimes that sleeping draught can have side effects, though - something I'm looking at in the next chapter of Memory of Darkness. I also need to think about what would have happened to Elrohir if he'd been caught as the sun came up!

Oh, Jay, what a chapter! I confess I hadn't considered the danger of being in a troll's grip when the sun came up, until just at that moment... how awful that would have been! They'd have had to chip him free... Ouch!

And considering everything else, I'm glad that didn't happen! Poor Linhir... and poor Legolas! His injuries sound quite nasty, and yet I think you described them very realistically. I absolutely LOVE what Elrond said as he examined him: “Oh, elfling, what have you done this time?” what a grand line, and its follow-up about only three people called him that: Thranduil, Glorfindel & Elrond... heh heh heh... ah the joys of eternal youth in the eyes of eternal elders!! :-)

Going to be a long recovery, I fear. Oh the angst, however will we bear it?? (heh... you know I love it!!)

Thanks for another fine chapter, nin mellon!

Author Reply: Thanks, Jasta! I think it would have been interesting to explore what would happen if Elrohir had been trapped by the troll, but I already had enough problems in this chapter. I think I've learnt my lesson, though, about killing elves we know and like - poor Linhir had a very brief entrance and exit!

Legolas's recovery will be the subject of the next chapter - soon.

You know who I feel sorry for? Elrond. He can't let any of them out of his sight for a second without having to stitch and medicate afterwards. And Legolas must indeed have a thick skull. I trust whatever is wrong is going to get better, given that Elrond felt no bumps or anything.

Author Reply: Poor Elrond, always on hand with his repair kit. Legolas will be fine eventually, but he's going to have a bit of a concussion for a while.

A terrific chapter, Jay! *sniff* Oh, Linhir! I am glad that the body count was only one and not three, though. A close call for Elrohir and Legolas.

Author Reply: I've made the mistake before of killing an elf I'd come to like during a story. So poor Linhir didn't get much introduction, or I wouldn't have been able to do it!

I think Legolas and Elrohir were both lucky.

You're torturing him in two stories, Jay! Well, we could look at this in a positive light - you could treat it like a prisoner doing concurrent terms, vs consecutive terms. All punishment served at once and then he is free! No more torture!

Yeah, right, no chance of that. I really liked how the elves were into the battle. There had to be such a rush of adrenalin in bringing down these dangerous trolls, and in figuring out how to do it. Dangerous, though, as Linhir and Legolas learned. Legolas should be glad for the sleep, poor elfling.

Author Reply: Don't try to pretend that you don't like elf torture and hurt/comfort! Where's the fun in getting it all over quickly?

Of course, in this story the comfort part has to come from someone other than Thranduil - for now - but the trick with the trolls will be useful in the future!
