The Great Escape  by jenolas 6 Review(s)

Let's hear it for errant elves! I am loving this little interlude in the forest-I guess they were all grateful to be out of the confines of all that stone and away from all those prying eyes - adoring or otherwise. Now what's this about swimming - would that be, perhaps, with tunics off? Hmmmmmm? One can only hope and imagine.... I thoroughly enjoyed Celeborn and Legolas going off to commune with the trees, and their conversation. Celeborn is a good "uncle" or whatever to the I've always loved the way the elves love the trees, and the way the trees love their elves. Celeborn's story about Thranduil and Oropher and Galadriel was very interesting, as well. Thranduil defending Galadriel? That's a new approach....I think I like it! :-) Great chapter.

Author Reply: Thanks, and I am guessing you will really enjoy the next chapter as well when we go and see what Haldir and co are doing.*wink*

I liked your version of why Oropher left Doriath, jenolas. Very original and inventive. I could definitely see Galadriel making that kind of threat to someone who angered her.

Now, I'm heading off to the next chapter!

Author Reply: Galadriel is definitely not a lady to be messed with, I agree.

Okay I guess I should have read this chapter before I reviewed the last one. Okay Galadriel is okay if she gets along with Thranduil. Have to admit, I love her taking care of the elf bothering her. Maybe he'll think twice next time. Never underetimate nad ellyth.

I loved the Legolas/Celeborn bonding. Sweetie Legolas needs all his family.

thanks for writing

Jule

A great chapter! I enjoy all the history you are giving us in this story.

Author Reply: Thanks! It certainly presents the perfect opportunity for a few small 'flashbacks', and there are more yet to come.

I really enjoyed the story about Thranduil in Doriath. When Celeborn first started talking about it, I was as eager as Legolas to hear more. And the elf who tried to kiss her must have been a great fool. Galadriel is far more scary than Thranduil in my opinion.

Author Reply: I agree that Galadriel is far more scary than Thranduil, who is really a sweetheart of an elf as far as I am concerned. The other elf was certainly foolish, but the elder generation of Elves were not by any means perfect, nor renowned for their common sense in some cases.

Oh, lovely chapter. Those elves have no intention of going back, do they?!

“Legolas, shall we see what these old trees recall of the years gone by?” I love seeing this side to Celeborn, and it’s wonderful that he recognises their love for the trees as something he and Legolas can share. I have to smile too when I see him being so affectionate with his grandsons:)

It sounds like Elladan and Elrohir have been well-behaved for far too long and need to vent some mischief. It’s quite funny to see the way Glorfindel and Erestor read them so easily and just resign themselves to waiting for whatever will happen.

I like that Celeborn asks Legolas to drop his title. Celeborn seems to not only respect the younger elf but I get the sense that he’s actually quite pleased to have an opportunity to spend some time with him, especially as he clearly feels an affection for Thranduil.

That little story was fascinating. I was completely intrigued when I saw how painful Celeborn found even contemplating it. I can well imagine that everyone is enchanted by Galadriel’s beauty but for a race that is so respectful of the marriage bond, it must have been a complete shock for this elf to not only approach her but try to kiss her. Thranduil did exactly the right thing. Such a gentleman. Or whatever the elven equivalent is… I can see how the incident – and Thranduil’s reaction – could cause trouble among the more political of them. Oropher seems to have completely over-reacted, although I suspect that he was probably unhappy anyway and this was just the excuse he needed to make a decision that he probably already had thought of anyway. It’s just such a pity that he didn’t really treat Thranduil with the respect he deserved. Fair play to Thranduil for following duty and going with his father in the end. Crikey, how different things would have been if he hadn’t!

“Nay, of course not! You misunderstand. She threatened to remove a certain body part.” LOL! Well done, Galadriel. I notice Celeborn seems rather proud of his wife’s ability to handle herself too! At least she doesn’t seem to mind that nearly all the male elves have disappeared. I love the way Celeborn gets all paternal with Legolas at the end – although that poor elf *really* doesn’t seem to like people teasing him about maidens.

Great chapter. I really enjoyed seeing these two elves together. *wanders off to the fridge for some strawberries*

Author Reply: No, they do not want to go back, not unless they are forced to, it is so much more pleaseant in the forest.

Elladan and Elrohir have yet to find their own amusement, but rest assured they will ( next chapter).

Galadriel is not an elf to be messed with, as lovely and elegant as she appears outwardly, her inner strength has seen her through very difficult times. Celeborn is naturally proud of his wife, and he knows how well she can skillfully wield a sword when necessary! :)

Strawberries, eh Dot? In the hopes of attracting a couple of young Peredhel, perhaps?
