Can I join G and E's reading club, do you think? *g* They have such a nice relationship - as you said, more like brothers. Now those twins, you'd think that over the centuries they would learn not to mess with the "big dogs", but I guess not! :D Isn't it amazing how the threat of their daernaneth's displeasure sobered those two up? Bad Erestor! LOL

Author Reply: Bad Erestor can read to me any time he likes!

I guess the younger ones can simply not resist the challenge!

LOL I knew the twins would try and do something during this interlude. I'm impressed that they managed to carve a serviceable chess set in a few hours. And then to stain them with blackberry juice --- quite ingenious. Did your knowledge of blackberry juice stains come from personal experience?

Author Reply: Their expertise comes from long hours spent around the campfire with little else to do whilst away on their orc hunts.

In my case it was mulberry juice. My Nan had a huge mulberry tree that my siblings and I used to climb whenever we visited. Overripe mulberries are delicious and very 'squishy' and make good little paint balls, if you get my drift. More than once we were 'reprimanded' for stained clothes and dyed hands!

Very entertaining! The interaction between Glorfindel and Erestor was just brilliant. :-)

Author Reply: In case you did not notice, they are two of my favourites!

*sigh* I really am enjoying this story.

I know I’ve said it before but I love the way you write the relationship between Glorfindel and Erestor. There’s such ease between them and their playfulness always makes me smile! A restless Glorfindel is obviously an annoying Glorfindel – I can’t stand people reading over my shoulder either! The thing is, though, it’s so sweet that he really only wants Erestor’s company that you really have to forgive him… What a lovely image of Erestor reading to him as he rests his head on his lap.

It’s interesting that Elrohir has seen the two behaving so affectionately together before but Elladan hasn’t. It seems to unsettle him at first but I like that neither is unduly bothered or judgemental. As Elladan says, “Glorfindel and Erestor have been friends forever.” Maybe it’s just strange for them to see Erestor so relaxed and open.

I wonder who wrote that book? Maybe Celeborn himself.

My absolute favourite part of this chapter was when Erestor coughs and Glorfindel offers him some wine. It’s probably a strange thing to pick out but it’s just such a kind and genuine gesture and besides, I think you’re such a genius when it comes to adding little details that mightn’t seem important story-wise but actually go a long way to giving insights into characters:-)

Those two sons of Elrond are born troublemakers! I’m so impressed at their little trick, though. I don’t know how you came up with it. I love the fact that accurate prediction of the victims’ behaviour was so integral to its success as well – and it worked perfectly! I admit, though, that I was kind of glad when Glorfindel and Erestor tried to make them feel bad – Galadriel would *not* be impressed if Glorfindel was going around with black fingers! And yay for Erestor besting the twins again! I could almost hear him and Glorfindel chuckling away together at the end. And maybe I might have chuckled right along with them;-)

Author Reply: Thank you for your compliment about my characterisation and for noticing the more subtle nuances I sometimes employ. I understand what I am trying to do, of course, but I often wonder if anyone else sees between the lines.

It is definitely uncommon for Erestor to be so demonstrative towards Glorfindel in public, but I guess he is so relaxed at the moment that he has forgotten to be reserved. Undoubtedly a result of Glorfindel's free spirited nature, I suspect.

Look for a little more trouble to come as a result of the blackberries.

I do like the Glorfindel/Erestor relationship. They have such a good-natured affection for each other - and for the little monkeys of Elrondions.

I liked Legolas / Celeborn too. In fact, all these elves seem to be thoroughly pleasant people. Which is good.

Author Reply: Yes, there are no unfriendly relationships amongst this group, and they are all of carefree disposition, expecially in the freedom of the forest.

Games within games here! Apparently you have to get up mighty early in the morning to outfox Erestor.

Author Reply: Early morning with Erestor?... sounds good to me!
