| Oh that bit with the apples was just MEAN! It's a shame Pip couldn't just take Frodo's advice and laugh it off; but saving Lilac's life might have done even better. Author Reply: Yes, it was a bit mean of them. Sometimes a joke can go way too far. At least Lilac received a bit of payment for her part in it. | |

| Pippin to the rescue! I personally would have probably debated a bit more before I saved Lilac, but then I am evil! LOL! You showed that Pip is a very caring person even when he has reason not to be- I liked Merry's line about Sam waiting so long to check on Frodo- it was great- Also the apple prank and Frodo's suggestion of how to stop it from occuring was wonderful! Going on to read the next chapter! mc Author Reply: Frodo may be giving more good advice before this is over. With Merry in bed, someone has to take charge. Oh, and I would have let Lilac suffer a bit more too. Couldn't see that from Pip though. | |

| Pippin should listen to Cousin Frodo - he knows the score! I agree with Pearl - Lilac is not worth the effort (but I suppose Pippin couldn't let her expire without making an effort). Author Reply: Pippin probably acted without thinking on this one. Someone was in trouble and he did what he could without considering anything else. I am more like Pearl. I would have let her wait a bit longer. It did solve Pippin's probelm in a way though. It puts the attention on Lilac and Pippin's rescue rather than the apple bobbing. | |

| "I hope it’s something to eat," Fredegar grinned. "Sam seems to have abandoned us." Great for a chuckle. And the favourite son-only son comment was perfect. The only thing more perfect was the three eating happily at the end of the chapter. Very hobbity indeed! Author Reply: Hobbits that are eating are happy hobbits! | |
