why do i get the feeling that even when we find ourselves dead some of us will still be saying " well, it could have been worse"? but the story couldn't have been better. Author Reply: There's a line in the movie "Ever After" that I just adore. It's spoken by the stepmother and perfectly reflects that character, but it is also intrinsically true: "No matter how bad things are, they can always get worse." Hobbits, thankfully, take a much more optimistic view of this. Glad you enjoyed the story!

wow i was really expecting a little humerous fic too but was pleasantly surprised with this. i love pippin mischief. :D i also love sort of getting to know a bunch of characters that arent written about as much as the obvious ones ;) Author Reply: LOL, I was expecting a humerous little fic too when I first sat down to write this story. It turned out quite different than I expected, and all because I noticed Ilberic was one year younger than Pippin while studying the family trees. I thought it would be fun to give Pippin his own little tag-along and see how he deals with the situation. Keeping Frodo and Merry out of the story was a good opportunity to get to know some of the other characters. Thanks for reading, so glad you enjoyed it!

This was so sweet! When I first started reading, I suppose I expected it to be more of a humorous little story about the Took children, but the drama that you wrote into it was much better! I'm so glad that Ilberic pulled through - he's very lucky they found him in time! Thank you for this wonderful little story. I really enjoyed it. :) - Pervinca Author Reply: Thank you! I did at first intend this to be just a little humor fic, as it was inspired by a humorous anecdote that Pippin tells Frodo in another story I'm working on called "A Tale That Grew in the Telling." But then I started looking in the family trees for cousins for Pippin to play with and spotted Ilberic, and the story just sort of took over from there. You're welcome and thank you for the lovely review. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :)

Very interesting to read of Pippin getting into trouble with cousins *other* than Merry. In fact it was nice to see a story with Pip and no Merry, though I love them together, sometimes it is nice to explore their other relationships. Ilberic is not a cousin I had paid much attention to on the family tree. You made nice use of him. Lovely story! Author Reply: Thank you! Well, I figure Pippin's the type that could get into trouble no matter who he's with. Merry is his favorite 'partner in crime' though. Ilberic is the perfect age to be a little tag along for Pippin. Add onto that a fretful mother that never lets him have any fun and I think it's easy to see why he admires his cousin so much. I'll be using him again.
