| Oh, you have me on the edge of my seat!! I love this! This chapter was especially sweet. The line: ‘Please,’ he thought, ‘please tell me. I will help carry your wounds if you would but share them with me. Please.’ That was so touching. Your whole story is a plethora of wonderful characters, emotions, and hints that have me clicking "Next" constantly. Thank you so much for this story. I love your cottons and Gamgees....and your Frodo and his relations. You draw the reader in and let me picture what's going on inside the characters head and what they are doing without being tedious and over descriptive. Namarie, mellon nin! In one of the earlier chapters...four, I think...you said something along the lines of "the five years before Rosie reached coming of age stretched tortuously before Sam..." I believe you meant "torturously". "Tortuously" means something like a twisting, winding road I think. :) I'm sorry. I tend to nit-pick, but I just thought I'd let you know as a friend. Author Reply: Merry is such a sweetie in this chapter. He cares so much for Frodo and wants to help him, yet he realizes here that there are some things that he simply doesn't have the experience needed to really, truly help. He can comfort Frodo, and he does to the best of his ability, but he can never understand what it's like to lose a parent, much less both. I'm glad you found this story and are enjoying it so much. It was an adventure just to write it - I didn't know much more than the reader what was going to happen next in some cases! It certainly has a good many more cliffhangers than I ever planned on. Thanks for the tip! There's always going to be a typo or two or twenty that I overlooked and I'm slowly finding and weeding them out. :) | |

| Poor Merry. He so wants to help Frodo and he is trying so hard to watch out for him. I think he got more than he bargined for when Frodo opened up about his parents. I wonder when Frodo will realize that his ring got left behind at Bag End? This is a very mysterious little story you have here. Very enjoyable. Author Reply: Frodo took Merry by surprise, telling him so much. Merry didn't know what to make of it. He is always looking out for Frodo. He knows it hard on his cousin to visit Buckland and this trip seems to be particularly hard on Frodo, so he's naturally going to worry more than usual. I'm glad you're enjoying the mystery. | |

| Merry must have found it quite difficult sometimes, divided as he was between Frodo and Pippin - and in some ways a protector to both. Is Frodo being prophetic here, with the vision of the crack between his parents' names? It was good to hear his memories of his parents. I liked Pippin's trick on Berilac - although he will probably need to watch out in the future. I hate to think how Frodo will react if/when he discovers that the ring is missing. Author Reply: I imagine Merry very much the protector of both Frodo and Pippin. He's protective by nature, and with Pippin being the youngest and Frodo being so 'alone' as he is at Bag End, Merry would feel obligated to look after both of them. Frodo was either being prophetic or trying to distract Merry from asking any more questions. Didn't quite work out, did it? Pippin will have to look out for Berilac, sooner than he thinks. That little ring is going to cause some big problems. | |
