The Shire's justice is short and sweet, and in this case well merited. Author Reply: Very well merited. It's quite handy that representatives of the Kings were handy to give them over to, actually.

It's nice to see Eglantine and Pearl making Reggie's lasses feel welcome. The tyranny of thier mother toward them is terrible--I wonder what she would do if pressed to accompany the delegation south...travelling the hard road...eating a cold meal when it rains...sleeping in the ditches...lovely picture indeed. ;-) With the "moot" nearing the end, I'm starting to look forward to Road to Edoras. I suppose you're just as happy as the hobbits for the assembly to be over! I simply loved the scene between Bergil and Pippin. I can just imagine the look on Pippin's face when Bergil picked him up :) I hope you plan on writing Pearl's time with Opal. I'm sure it will be very touching. - Pervinca Author Reply: Yes, I am certainly glad it's over. I'm really *over* politics right now! I thought it would be fun. After all, even though Bergil is younger, he is larger. I didn't get Pearl's time with Opal in, but I think you will like her little chat with Poppy in the next chapter.

Just wonderful and I loved Sam's talk with Legolas and Gimli and the way that he teased his sister a bit. Also enjoyed Gimli's reaction to "the Talk". LOL Author Reply: Yes, well. I always thought that Dwarves would either be very earthy on the subject of the "birds-and-bees" or very prim and close-mouthed. I decided that prim was funnier.

Good to see another chapter for this story. I almost forgot what was going on there for a minute. ;) Loved Sam's teasing of Marigold. It's funny to see that even back in Middle Earth, girls used that old "I'm not telling you" line, and that it crosses all races. Frodo's probably jumping for joy that the assembly is finally over, though probably not as enthusiastically as Bergil is to have Pippin back. Too bad the men will be leaving soon. Author Reply: Sorry about being so long in the update, but between being caught up by The Dare, and a bad attack of RL, Reckoning kind of got on the back burner for a while. Yes, I can see Sam teasing Mari. I picture her as being just a touch flighty--not much, but enough to lead Tom a merry chase, and give him fits. Unlike Sam's solid and steady Rose. I think the old "I'm not telling you" line probably goes back as far as there have been males and females. Yes, Frodo's glad to have the assembly over. He wants to go home to Bag End and start living a normal life. It is too bad. And in seven years, we know that Aragorn makes the Ban absolute. Mean old Aragorn! 8-)

Poor Opal - she sounds to me as if she could be lapsing into depression. Plenty of loving attention will probably help, but still . . . Love the byplay between Sam/Marigold and Legolas and Gimli. 'Elven maidens say that very thing'. And the suggestion that sex education and dwarves have little in common (although a race that is rather short of females might not need much sex education). Dago is sorted out; Bergil is reunited with Sir Pippin; the Assembly is concluded - what is left to achieve - Sam's wedding? Author Reply: If she is, she has quite a bit to be depressed about--one leg gone, the other broken, her mother banished, and the pins knocked out from her spoiled lifestyle. A great deal of it is physical pain. But as you said, loving attention always helps, and Poppy and Lavender are very good healers. I thought it would be funny to hint that Dwarves wait until the marriage to learn the facts of life. (And you do have a point about the lack of females.) Sam's teasing his little sister a bit, because I can imagine the lass giving poor Tom fits, unlike his solid Rosie. And let's face it: there is a certain type of female who, whatever her race, is going to say things like that. They seem to think that loving someone should make them a mind-reader. (There's also the famous "if you really loved me, you'd know what I want for my birthday, etc.") Yep, Sam's wedding, and then to see the embassy off.

OMG...I couldn't help but break up in laughter at Sam's discussion with Gimli and Legolas. Sex ed Hobbit style - absolutely priceless! "We'll just have to have the fun without being miserable first." I suspect Sam and Rosie could teach their parents a thing or two about marriage. Well done, as always! Author Reply: I've noticed that there are two main types of couples: there are those who seem to enjoy the drama of fighting and making up, and those who are more stable and easy-going, with a good understanding of what not to say and when not to say it, and whose faith in each other is deep enough to withstand all the petty problems that lead to screaming matches for others. I see Sam and Rose as the second type, obviously. 8-)
