Now, I can see that actually happen -- getting locked in a storeroom somewhere. Scary thought...

I've liked this one since the first time I read it. I am glad that you posted it here so everyone can enjoy it. I think I read it on ff.net the first time. Great story! I love Felly's enjoyment of stories about Gimli and Pippin is just wonderful in this one. I also like the fact that once they find him, Merry doesn't make a big deal out of Pippin's situation, they just treat it as common-place and go on.

Author Reply: You probably did read it on ff.net. I'm slowly copying over those stories as my editor-friend glances over them. I'd like to have everything in one place, if possible. I also have a website in the works so there'll be at least two places with all my stuff. We've had several hard drive crashes over the years, so I like to have things stashed several places, "just in case".

Yup. Merry knows better than to fuss over grown-up Pippin. The younger cousin probably had his fill of fussing before he became of age.

Thanks for reviewing!

I'm glad the Ent draught turned up to fix those lungs.

Author Reply: So am I. When I was writing the pneumonia during "Jewels", and my medical advisor told me the symptoms I'd chosen would do permanent damage to the lungs, I thought long and hard, and came up with the sketchy outline that became "At the End of His Rope", leading to the Ent draught cure.

If his lungs were to be permanently scarred, leading to chronic problems (which might explain why he died at the relatively early age of 96, but I didn't want to do that to him, have him so ill all his life), it made for great character building and not a little drama, showing Pippin carrying on bravely despite his heavy burden.

But I had to have a cure in the works to be able to do it. I'm not one to inflict pain for the sake of pain. There always has to be some redeeming value attached. And I'm a sucker for a happy ending.
