Very melancholy and yet beautiful as Legolas and really all of the people prepare for the changes sure to come. I sometimes think of how only this very small group of people knew about the quest and what they were to attempt. All else saw only the rise in evil, and did not know this was a climax, but these few knew either they would fail and the dark lord would rule or they would win and a new age would begin. I think I think these thoughts whenver I see Aragorn and Arwen together; they are a symbol of this change. Author Reply: Yes, it must have been a staggering burden for those in Imladris, and especially those going on the quest, to bear.

That was such a lovely piece. I thought you described the subtle differences between Imladris and Mirkwood beautifully. It’s clear that Legolas thinks lovingly of home – it gives new depth to the journey he is about to take when he is so closely bound to his home and his people and must leave all that behind. It’s interesting too that the realm that suffers most from the darkness is the one where the elves sing with joy and hope, rather than looking back. It says so much of the strength of spirit of Thranduil’s people. I love the easy relationship between Arwen and Legolas here, as well as the deep understanding of one another that they have. It tells immediately of a shared history that you never really have to explain because their actions speak so loudly. They obviously care deeply for one another and I really like the idea of Legolas acting almost as a protector of Aragorn during the quest in order to return him safely so that Arwen can find happiness with the one she loves. I thought you did a great job in this short piece of taking the start of the familiar story of the quest and providing more emotional depth and an awareness of what these people were leaving behind and the choices they had to make at this time. And, of course, it was beautifully written with a genuine sensitivity towards these characters as always:) Author Reply: Indeed it must have been a difficult time for Legolas, but I like to think that he had the support ofat least some of the Elves in Imladris, and of course he would want to see to Arwen's happiness... he is such a sweet Elf, is he not?

Beautiful story, Jenolas. You evoke a lovely atmosphere and then go on to show how the elves are tied to Arda. The affection between Legolas and Arwen is sweet, as is his promise to care for the one he can see she loves. You have brightened my Saturday morning. Author Reply: What a nice compliment, and very much appreciated.

Very nicely written. I find it interesting that a lot of people out there have come to the conclusion that Legolas and Arwen were to be married but didn't. The versions are always very different, but the general concept is always the same. I really enjoyed reading your short tale of love, friendship, sorrow and happiness. Author Reply: There may have been many other eligible maidens in Mirkwood or Imladris, but Arwen is the only one named by Tolkien ( not that she was available after meeting Aragorn, of course). I appreciate your comments, it is good to hear you enjoyed the story.
