| This is the first time I saw this story and I must say I'm sorry I never noticed it before. The friendschip between the three of them is very well written. Somehow they do have a tendency to get into trouble don't they? I do have one point to correct you on. When Legolas inspects the bows he shoots an imaginary arrow. This is something you should never do!! You never release a bow without an arrow and it is vey bad for a bow to do that, it can actually shatter the bow. Author Reply: This is a very old story, so it's not surprising you didn't notice it before - it's not been updated for years! I didn't know that about bows - Legolas should know better! | |

| That was just the perfect finishing touch to your story. I had to go back and read the whole thing again, of course. I liked the touches of preminisions when Legolas was dreaming of Glorfindel and the Balrog. Sent shivers down my spine. Author Reply: Thank you! | Oh my gosh! I forgot about this fic. It was the first story that you wrote that I read, way back when I was just lurking here. I absolutely love this story. Now that I done with my comprehensive exams for school, I have time, so I think I'll go back and read it straight through. This was a great ending though. I love Legolas's reaction. And Thranduil and Legolas's relationship all through this story, and in this chapter in particular, is just amazing. You show how close they are and how much they mean to one another so well. | This is exactly right. Just the way I would have imagined it. It also reminds me of the scene in the movie where Legolas receives a new, larger bow as a gift just before leaving Lothlorien. I imagine that in addition to admiring the excellent craftsmanship of his new bow, he also realized that its longer length made it a better bow for him to use during the remainder of the Quest -- where he would not be shooting from the trees in the way that Mirkwood elves usually do. Author Reply: Tolkien (and PJ) never mentioned that Legolas would have had to practise with that new bow, but it must have handled differently. I often wondered why the Galadhrim bows were longer than those in Mirkwood - surely they fought from the trees as well? Perhaps the mallorns allowed them more room. | |

| What a lovely vignette, Jay! I like that Legolas is so excited that he becomes tongue-tied, and that it takes him a couple of tries before he adjusts to the new draw. | This is gorgeous! I love how Thranduil teases Legolas when his son is lost for words. And I laughed at Legolas’ very serious assessment of the bow: “This is a little shorter than the ones you gave Elladan and Elrohir,” he noted with approval. “It will be much better to use in the trees – theirs would be too long.” Such a wood-elf ;-) And that last line! Aaw! This is really lovely, Jay. Author Reply: Thanks, Dot! You know how much I love Thranduil as a loving father. Legolas is a true wood-elf and a naural archer - he'd notice a little detail like that instantly. | |

| Oh, Jay, thank you! It is the perfect ending to that story! I imagine that Legolas didn't eat much that night and practiced until Thranduil forced him to get some sleep.
