Very good. I like your portrayal of Fingolfin's brooding and contemplation and reactions of the "children" of Fingolfin and Finarfin. Well done.

The descriptions at the begining and end were quite lovely, I could see right across the the plains of ice. I did expect a bit more of Fingolfin's own thoughts though, either his loyalty to his brother, or just his need to prove himself. However, I was pleased with how you portrayed Finrod especially, dead on characterization. This was a very nice piece! In regards to their Quenyan names, Morgoth's Ring lays it out for you rather nicely. Or I suppose you could find it online.

I thought I'd reply to your reply: I'm pretty sure you're right about the other names also being Sindarin in form. I only brought Galadriel up because her name is also different in meaning (i.e. it's not just a translation, but a whole new name). Artanis means "noble woman," Nerwen means "man-maiden," and Galadriel means "maiden crowned with a radiant garland" and has other form "Alatariel" (High-Elven, which I assume means Quenya). But even Alatariel wouldn't make sense at this point, since she doesn't get that name till later. You do have a good point about people not recognizing things though, and the names being confusing. The first time I read the Sil, I definitly got throughly confused about all the guys whose names start with "F" and kept having to go back and check if somebody was supposed to be dead yet or not :) Thanks for letting me know that "A Visit to Imladris" is posted with more chapters on ff.net - I'll be sure to go check it out there. I can sympathize with your "at college and drowning in work" - my profs are letting up right now, but about three weeks ago that definitly described my life. :)

A well-written short scene. However, Galadriel should not at this point be named Galadriel, as she hasn't acquired that name yet (it's Sindarin, and since she hasn't met any Sindar yet, obviously she can't have a Sindarin name). She should still be Artanis or Nerwen, her father and mother names respectively. It's a minor point, but I thought I'd point it out since (in my experience at least) those of us who've made it through the Sil tend to care about minor points, and I thought you'd want to know. Author Reply: Hey! Thanks for the review! I did consider putting Galadriel, Fingolfin and Fingon and all with their Quenya names (because Fingolfin etc. is a Sindarian form isn't it? I think I read that) but in the end I didn't because I didn't think most people who would read it would know who they are. (Personally I often find it difficult to follow through with the Quenya names, especially as I don't know the Silmarillion that well). Thanks for the info though! I didn't know about Nerwen being a mother name! Dragon
