| THis was most enjoyable, I have my own very different story abot Faramir's reactions to the new tree on this site and am always eager to read new versions of Tolkien's story. | There he halted, and took in the sights and sounds of the city awakening, sniffing deeply as the aroma of freshly baked bread floated up with a whiff of wind. Somewhere far below he thought he heard the sounds of children laughing. Sphinx already grabbed my favorite paragraph, so I offer the above as my contribution. You evoke the sounds and smells so nicely in so few words. I can really see, smell and hear this. 'Course, I do like food in fic. Call is FoodFic. Many thankyous for my birthday present, Preciousss. This is your typical nice quiet way of making yourself understood. I do so enjoy it and I was truly startled to find myself all choked up with tears in my eyes at the end. I left out sounds and smells for fear of overlaps with Strength of a River, but her prod reminded me that overlaps aren't criminal:) Shall endeavour to pay devote more airtime to food in fics from now on:p | |

| At this time, when the sounds of the city were muted and soft, it had served as a glimpse of what had once been, and what Faramir could perhaps dream of seeing it as. I loved that paragraph.;) Somehow you're able to write about these moments imbued with emotion, and not describe them word by word - and yet the underlying feeling flows. A rare gift, this.
