What a truly beautiful story. I am quite at a loss for words. It seems so simple now that I've read it, but how rare in reality, that the truest of friends can share beauty together. My favorite lines: "What does an elf see? How do they measure beauty, they who sing of stars and moonlight and stones that carry the light of the heavens? Is there any kindred spark between them and my folk of the earth, who see beauty where no star has ever shown?" You seem to have completely understood Elves & Dwarves as Tolkien created them, as well as adding another magnificent layer to the relationship between Gimli and Legolas. I also love how this story is told from Gimli's PoV. It could just be me, but I find most stories are written in third person, and first person is, as always, exceedingly difficult to get away with. But you've done it masterfully. I'm only sorry I didn't discover this story earlier!

"However it came to be, the differences between our kindreds now seem petty and small, for how can enmities or grievances remain, where beauty has been shared?" I love it. Love love LOVE it. It's probably the best piece about Gimli and Legolas I've ever read. You really make me feel the beauty of Aglarond with your masterful words, and I'm grateful to you for that. And this last sentence...I'd like to shove it in the face of those who call LotR a racist book. Thank you for giving me such a great read.

This is such an extraordinary gap filler. It is full of beautiful descriptions and is an excellent showing of Legolas' and Gimli's friendship.

Your descriptive detail is amazing and I love your portrayal of this moment. The friendship between Legolas and Gimli is always a great subject to write about, and you do it beautifully.

Incredible story. "Aglarond" has been on my 'favorite stories' list on fanfiction.net since it was posted there; what a glorious tribute to friendship. "What does an elf see? How do they measure beauty, they who sing of stars and moonlight and stones that carry the light of the heavens? Is there any kindred spark between them and my folk of the earth, who see beauty where no star has ever shown?" Beautiful. Author Reply: Oh, Shirebound, coming from you such a kind review just makes me grin like a jack-o-lantern! Thank you ever so much, and I am truly honored to know this has been on your favorites list. *blush* Thank you!

An utterly beautiful peice of writing. You have a way with descriptions and emotions that very few writers have. Congrats on a wonderful peice. Jules AKA YunaDax Author Reply: Thank you, Jules. I am so glad to know that both the descriptions and emotions of this story played well. It is definitely a balance of both, and it is a joy and a relief to hear that the result pleases you. Thanks!

That was lovely. The descriptions of the caves, the formations and waters were beautifully described, as was the sense of ancient history you evoked. I live near a cave system that was inhabited in prehistoric times (Kents Cavern, anyone in the UK heard of it?), and that has a little of the grandeur you describe. Jay Author Reply: Oh, thank you, Jay! (And wonderful to see you here, too.) I'm very pleased to hear that my descriptions worked for you. It's been ... heh, a lot of years, like over 20, since I set foot in a living cave, but the wonder of them has never left me. They are majesty and mystery - even though they at the same time terrify me with their darkenss and silence. LOL, there was a bit of me in Legolas' reactions, even as there was a bit of me in Gimli's wonder. Thank you for such a kind review! :-)

Beautiful. You, too, must be a lover of the beauties of the cave, ErinRua, to describe so lusciously the visions that wait within. Gimli would be proud and honored by your descriptions of his most beloved future home. Legolas' reactions were exactly as I imagined them to be. So awed at the sight that words fail him, as Tolkien said. Only tears could begin to describe the beauty. Perfect. Wonderfully done. LKK Author Reply: To everyone who has left such kind reviews ~ Thank you most humbly. I continue to be amazed by how well this story is receieved, and I can only count it a gift, as I also count your kind readership. Thank you for taking the time to let me know that I told a tale that touched the heart. Sincerely, Erin 1 Feb 2004
