*I will be looking for one who is not a sadist*

LMAO! That was hilarious. Very nice.

Author Reply: Thank you! I rather like that line myself.

Thank you for the review,

Ha! that was most amusing. i finished your poem:
He pulled himself up off the ground

            Dearly hoping none had seen

            A valiant elf-lord swiftly downed

            By a wicked pebble mean.

            He staggered to unsteady feet

Pushed his hair out of his eyes

            Woozily faced the balrog’s heat
disregarding someone’s lies about the “smooth terrain”
he then realized he had cought fire - yes, he was in pain.
holding a lock of his singed hair, at the beast he began to yell:
“YOU RUINED MY PRECIOUS HAIR! **** YOU! GO TO HELL!”
‘This place blows’ the balrog thought, ‘that’s not a bad idea’
So he grabbed Fin and jumped off the cliff
waved to the bystanders
“see ‘ya”

Author Reply: Well, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :) ::laughs:: Well, that wasn't *exactly* what I had in mind for the rest of the poem, but it is amusing. ;) Actually, I wrote quite a few verses for Lindir's version of the poem, and then picked the ones I thought most appropriate, but I didn't for Elrond's version, so that works. . . . sort of. :) Thank you for reviewing!

Kitt of LindonReviewed Chapter: Epilogue on 2/17/2004
*laughs* I did not know horses could chant, let alone rhyme.
Nice ending, dramatic and smooth. But I cannot describe it well enough in words, it's just fitting.
I am looking forward to Asfaloth's next story. (Oh, but take your time, of course.) May your pencil never dull and may Asfaloth's mane never fall out. (I daresay he'd throw a fit.)

Author Reply: Most horses can't chant, but Asfaloth is rather unique, isn't he? ;) *expression of exceptionable smugness* I thought it was a suitable place to end. I've seen a lot of stories that don't have enough to keep going and drag out too long (I myself have been guilty of said offense). But, thank you very much! *mutters to self* Kitt cannot describe it in wordses, oh no, precious, ha ha, yes! *ceases imitating Gollum* Erm, just ignore that. ;) I'm afraid the next Asfaloth story won't be ready for a while. I'm working on other stuff as well, and it's shaping up to be longer than this one. *flashback* I'm going to write a story about Asfaloth. It'll be 2 pages. *later* Well, it's 22. Big difference. *later* I'm going to write a prequel to that story. It'll be 4 pages. *later* Okay, okay, I know it's 38! *later* All right, now I'm ready for the prequel interlude. It'll be about 4 or 5, maybe even 6 pages. *end flashback* Did you know you just released another plotbunny for a future story I'm planning on me? I wonder what Asfaloth would think if something DID happen to his beautiful mane. *very evil, evil grin* You know, I daresay he'd throw a fit. ;D Of course, I may end up not using it, but then again. . . I may. Anyway, thank you for the very nice review! Farewell wherever you fare, till your stable receives you at your journey's end. ;)

Oh lordy now this is a funny and well written fic. I was laughing my head off the whole time about Asfaloth POv and how he was acting. Man he sure is uh conceited and arrogant. And go Glorfindel, man he can handle that horse and seems to know him already. Jeez Elrond's horses are insane and have odd sense of humors.

Author Reply: Hello silvertoekee, and thank you for reviewing! Yep, conceited and arrogant definitely describe Asfaloth. Er, I mean, Asfaloth of the Cunning Mind. ;) Asfaloth is so neglected in fanfiction, I felt I had to give him more of a character. :) I suppose you might say he and Ainille have odd senses of humor. ;) Glorfindel's one of the few people who could actually handle a horse like Asfaloth, since he's been around a LONG time and has had a lot of practice. I mean, if he can handle a balrog, how hard can a horse be? ;)

Loved the song, it made the situation all the more amusing. I suspect that Asfaloth has yet to get into even worse trouble in the next chapters to come. (And he swings cats by their tails?!) Ah, but what a sight...to see Glorfindel explode. (From a safer distance than Asfaloth, of course.)

Author Reply: Yes, I thought you might like the song. ;) Truth to tell, I liked writing the first one so much, I couldn't resist putting in the second one. *grins* It would seem that Asfaloth will get in more trouble, wouldn't it? However. . . . there's only one more chapter! No? Yes. An epilogue that takes place 2 1/2 years later. But I'm working on an outtake from "An Elf's Best Friend" chronicling his first riding lesson. *evil grin* " "Lessons Learned the Hard Way" *eviller grin* Though it won't be ready for a while. Yes, Asfaloth swings cats by their tails. It's actually not unbelievable for a horse to do that. I have seen goats jerk and pull cats and chickens by their tails and a horse like Asfaloth might just take that a step farther. Besides, it's funny. I agree with whole heartedly. From a safe distance ONLY! ;) Can you imagine getting Glorfindel mad at you? I can't! In the first place, it would take a lot of work, and in the second, I'd be hiding under my bed and would miss it. :)

Once-elves and ugly dogs and not-humans, oh my!
This was the most amusing chapter, yet. Loved poor, not scared, but cold Asfaloth. The merry elves in the tree were a wonderful (and rare in fanfiction) touch; very Hobbitty those elves were. Good job. :-)

Author Reply: Mae govannen, LKK, and thank you for the precioussss review! Well, he is Asfaloth of the Cunning Mind, so he can't be scared. *Asfaloth is heard muttering, "I was just COLD! How dare LKK insinuate that I was scared? Evil human!"* I'm glad you liked Meglin and Alquandil. They were supposed to be Hobbitty, but I hoped they weren't just plain silly. Apparently, they fit, so thank you. *mutters* "The Hobbit" is underrated. It is my duty to bring it's neglected peoples and places to light. ;D

Kitt of LindonReviewed Chapter: 4 on 2/13/2004
Ah, love the new chapter! There are many things I liked about it, such as Asfaloth's mother telling him what happened to colts who wondered from their mothers (that was clever) and I loved Meglin's song (I sing the version from The Hobbit all the time to my family's annoyance) so, uh, I guess seeing a version of it here was enlightening.
I would like to especially point out that when Glorfindel spotted Meglin, Meglin acted like the perfect 'merry Elf' from The Hobbit.

Author Reply: Oh, good! Thank you very much! The idea about Asfaloth's mother was spawned in "Flight to the Ford" when Asfaloth mentions he'd heard tales about how awful the Ringwraiths were. I didn't really intend for it to be in "An Elf's Best Friend," it just sort of wormed it's way in on it's own. *shakes head* Plotbunnies! ;) I'm glad you liked Meglin's song, too, because actually (*sheepish grin*), I'm rather fond of singing the songs from LotR myself, and even though I don't sing that particular one from The Hobbit (I don't know a tune for it, but I kind of chant it on occasion), it is probably my favorite one. Good for you! It's a great song! It wasn't supposed to be in the story either, but when you have a most insistent plotbunny with it's teeth sunk in your chin, it's kind of hard to ignore. ;) I am most complemented. I don't think "The Hobbit" is given enough attention among LotR fanfiction writers, especially the elves in it, so I'm glad I was able to pull it off. As I mentioned, I really like that song in The Hobbit, but I also like that whole scene and that portrayal of the elves. Hmph! Too much elves mourning the passing of their kindred, and not enough elves teasing dwarves and singing silly songs. :D And before I talk any further, thank you very much for the very nice review, and if you liked the song in this chapter, I hope you enjoy the next chapter. *smirks mysteriously and refuses to say more*

Hmm, Asfaloth is the most arrogant creature I've ever seen. You write his self worship very well.
I like Glorfindel's nickname. *snort* *chuckle* Glorfy...
Can't wait for more!

Author Reply: *waves* Thank you, Kitt of Lindon. I'd like to take the credit for it, but Asfaloth really writes himself. I am just his enslaved scribe, giving inadequate tribute to his stunning magnificence. ;) He has to make sure he is properly portrayed as Asfaloth the Great. :) Children never respect the people who raised them, so I figured "Gorfy" the Balrog-Slayer was no exception. *grins* Thanks for the review!

LairewenReviewed Chapter: 3 on 2/11/2004
Oh, This is great! I loved how Glorfy tricked Asfaloth! Poor horse isn't as smart as he thinks!
Which horse did Elrohir choose? would love to know!

Author Reply: Thanks, Lairewen! Well, he is one of the oldest and most powerful elves in Arda, I hardly think a 6-month-old colt could outsmart him. Just don't tell Asfaloth I said that. ;) You will learn all about Elrohir's choice and some of its repercussions in Chapter Five and the Epilogue. For now, I'll just say that as all his choices share the same sire, they also share some of the same characteristics. *evil grin* Thank you for reviewing!
