Last chapter I just thought 'WOW' - but this chapter - 'How sad.' Drat - and now reading your title - with this bit of knowledge - I am concerned. But I will hope for the best. I do so love Morwen Steelsheen and what she must have been... but hope that the Steelsheen was against Rohan's enemies and NOT Thengel.... Cannot continue reading tonight - but am bookmarking this and will continue soon! Author Reply: Well, I've not deviated from canon, just embellished on it (which, given the little commentary in the Appendices, isn't difficult to do!), though you may find some of Morwen's choices challenging. I did write this believing that these people were fully human, capable of great emotional depth and also inherently flawed-- but, at heart, noble and stalwart. I hope that you enjoy the rest of the telling of the tale!

Hooray! It is always most surprising when one finds a really well-written tale. I chanced upon this one, as I most like Thengel, and fell in love. I love that you know how poor a leader Fengel was, but I wonder about Turgon. The books don't speak that highly of him, yet your tale reminds me that Thengel must have thought better of him than of Fengel, for him to remain in Minas Tirith. Will read on - and thanks for sharing this!!!! Author Reply: Oh gosh- you've totally made my day, discovering that you're reading this story of mine! It's not every day that a Thengel-lover comes along, and I'm so very pleased that you're enjoying this story. I almost want to reread it myself with you, since it's been a couple of years ago that I wrote it. What intrigued me about this pairing and situation are the kernels that Tolkien put in that astonished me as I wrote it: the inverse parallels with Faramir/Eowyn, that Turgon and Fengel die the same year, wondering how much of Gondorian culture Thengel brought with him back to Rohan... it's no wonder I loved writing it so much. I'm so glad that you're enjoying it! I ::loved:: writing it, visualizing Rohan and Gondor.

Hi Thevina, What a terrific story! I read it a few weeks ago, didn't have time to leave a review then, and then lost track of where it was... so please forgive the delay in reviewing. I have been intrigued by all the untold stories hinted at in Tolkien's accounts of Rohan, and your story very vividly constructs a plausible and fascinating reality for Morwen and Thengel. You provide a richness of characterization and detail that helps me almost "see" the story in my mind's eye, which few stories do. Thank you for a very fine evening's read! - Barbara Author Reply: Hello to you! How thrilling to get a review for this story, which is honestly one of my own favorites. (I enjoy rereading it, even knowing how it's going to end, lol!) I have been intrigued by all the untold stories hinted at in Tolkien's accounts of Rohan, and your story very vividly constructs a plausible and fascinating reality for Morwen and Thengel. Many thanks. Going through the Appendices can heap more fodder for potential stories than any one person has time to write; I hope that you will be writing Appendix-fics as well! You provide a richness of characterization and detail that helps me almost "see" the story in my mind's eye, which few stories do. I appreciate that comment. I had hoped to show both the positive/honorable characteristics of the main characters, but also their foibles and negative parts of their personalities. Keep them human and believable, in other words. I adore Rohan, as is probably evident in my story topics, and writing about the people and the culture there brings me great happiness. I am so glad that this story appealed to you enough to write a review! ~Thevina
