Whew! You had me worried (though of course I knew it had to come out right) I particularly liked this: Those lads would get into more mischief than Saradoc thought was possible for only two or three (if little Pippin joined them) lads to get into. But, who was he to judge, he had been the terror of the Hall himself once, and the apple had not fallen far from the tree it seemed. Author Reply: I`m glad you liked it! Thanks for reading Lin :)

Very real! The onset of the illness sounded authentic. Two little nitpicks, if it's not too much trouble... you have some control codes (greater-than and a symbol and less-than) in the text. you might want to edit them out. I'm not very clear on the tray Frodo brought to Merry for breakfast. I had the impression he was carrying it down the hallway to Merry's room, but then he ran to the bed, knelt and took Merry's hand. And then Esmeralda told him to go and get the tray. I had trouble forming a picture of this part of the story. Did Frodo make up the tray and then leave it somewhere while he went to see if Merry was awake? Author Reply: Thank you for letting me know, I`ll fix the codes then. About Frodo and the breakfast tray, he leaves it just outside Merry`s door and when seeing Merry ill in bed, he leaves it there and then rushes to the bedside.

Very well done! Exciting, and Merry's character shines through, his courage and sense of duty. I had a question: Merry said that his father was the Master, but his grandfather is still living, even though Saradoc has taken over many responsibilities. Has Rory retired completely? Wouldn't he be Master? (Not nitpicking, just trying to sort things out in my head) Author Reply: Saradoc would be acting as Master and doing a lot of the practical work. Outside the Hall I think people would look upon him as Master, not Rory. I see there is a inconsistency between this story and Growing, which actually takes place one year earlier, so I`ll fix it. Thank you for reading Lin! I`m glad you liked it.

I just checked and was shocked to see that I didn't review this over at the Talechallenge site. I'm so sorry. I love the blend of responsible 'heir to Buckland' and twelve-year-old child in this story. Merry is so determined to help and be responsible, but he forgets that he is still a child and just can't physically do everything he would like to be able to do. I also really enjoyed everyone's responses to his illness. Simply because he's such a sturdy, healthy child, they don't know how to react when he gets truly ill and so they all fall apart and immediately start thinking about him dying and such. Good thing he was too out of it to know what people were saying most of the time, he would have been scared out of his wits :) Author Reply: Thank you for such a nice review! This is the first story I ever wrote, and Marigold guided me carefully through it. I`m glad you liked how it came out! And yes, I believe the Brandybucks were quite shocked to see Merry so ill. Thank you for reading!

I'm glad to see Merry is better--and that his leadership abilities are already showing at the tender age of twelve. He may be stubborn, but that's what sees him through a lot of things in the War of the Ring. I love my Pippin, but Merry is right behind him. Pippinfan

Very nice--and a very stubborn Brandybuck as well. Merry's stubborness has always been endearing to me. Pippinfan
