Wow, this is incredible. You say this isn't very subtle, but I have to say I think it is and that's one of the things I love about it--that you let the reader figure out what's happening without saying it right out. "he would have wept, if shades could weep"-- Very powerful line. You've done a wonderful job. This is an incredibly moving piece.

Ohhh, I love this!! And you were absolutely right not to attempt any "polishing". I don't know how it could be improved = it's SO heartwarming (if not downright sad) but beautiful. Thank you, thank you. Author Reply: You're welcome, you're welcome! I can't help tweaking everything I write, but I've really been slapping my hands to keep from fiddling with this one. Thank you for taking the time to review!

What can I say, except this did make me cry. The descriptions of the light through the windows and the silver in Estella's hair painted a beautiful picture. Poor Merry. Author Reply: Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! I was actually suprised how well this turned out, considering I was racing to meet a deadline. (Chronic procrastinators tend to do this a lot.) I'm beginning to feel a twinge of conscience now, having made so many nice people cry! ;o) Ah well, they are revenged-I wrote the story so quickly I barely read my own words, and I didn't re-read it again until Marigold posted it. Then I sniffled all over my keyboard!
