That way  by Werecat 7 Review(s)

I just can't stop reading these. I love the combo of canon and movie verse here. The idea that the cat sent the Nazgul to the empty room. Good job, kitty. Obviously you have and love cats. Of course you would write them well. And you really do. I love the "I owe you nothing" / "I've seen your kind slay mine" attitude they have. Like the fued between elves and dwarves, the cats remember their ill treatment at the hands of Man but are wise enough to know when to think past that to help Man and the world at the same time.

Author Reply: Hi, Elliska.

Obviously you have and love cats.

How did you guess? *snicker* Thanks again for reading.

This story is really good! I had always wondered about the cat in the movie and after reading this, I shall never look at him the same way again.
I do love the history of the cats and how mighty they must be to face off the Nazgul. Perhaps I'll never be able to look at my cats the same way again...

Author Reply: Good heavens, I just discovered this review. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you.

Thanks a million times for your kind words. But credit must be given to my kitties as well; it was them who yold me of this story.

Thanks again,

Oh wow. I never expected this. What a delicious vignette. Beautifully wrought, with such lovely skill and perfect mastery of the more obscure depths of the Master's works. Absolutely breathtaking. Thank you.

Author Reply: *blushes*

Thanks for the praise. I owe much to my kitties who kept nudging me to write this.

Very fascinating, Werecat! I admit I had to read the story twice to decide if the cat had pointed the Nazgul to where he truly thought the hobbits were or if the cat knew the hobbits weren't actually there. I didn't think the cat would betray them, but I wasn't sure at first. I'm glad my first reading was wrong.

I liked this. I'm always fascinated and impressed by authors who take a seemingly familiar scene / moment / what have you and tell it from an unusual viewpoint. I always enjoy the new perspective.

I must admit that I don't remember the cat from the Prancing Pony scenes in FOTR, but I guarantee you I'll be looking for him the next time I watch the movie. Thanks to you, I have a new respect for him!

Author Reply: Hey, thanks!

Hmm... Perhaps I should make it more clear that the cat pointed the Nazgul to the wrong direction. I feared that it would be over-exposure, but it seems that it's a bit hazy.

Thanks a million times for your kind words,

That was wonderful. I am so enjoying these tales woven around Telvido (whether directly or from afar). This was an intriguing blend of movie and book.

I could *see* this story very easily: the trail of the ring, the empty common room, the cat facing the Ringwraith, and even the casual backstory of Frodo feeding the cat (and the cat's casual gratitude over that and the song).

Whimsical, dangerous, thoughtful and mysterious.

Author Reply: Hehe, thanks. I wtote a story about Tevildo and then this one formed in my head so clearly that I couldn't get it out unless I wrote it.

Thanks you for your wonderful review,

I like this - your cat stories are never twee, but always well described. I liked the 'High Feline' language, and mothers talking in purring whispers to their litters.

The cat in the film is identical to my much lamented Storm, who was sadly killed a few years ago. It seemed very strange to see it the first time I saw FOTR.

One thing isn't quite clear - it seems obvious the cat had no reason to help the Nazgul, but did it know the hobbits weren't in their usual rooms? And why did it disappear?

Author Reply: Hello, and thanks for your kind words.
And you have my sincere sympathy for your loss. I've been there and I know it's never easy to lose a cat.

*but did it know the hobbits weren't in their usual rooms?*

Yes, he did. I was thinking of adding a scene whete Luin followed Frodo asking for seconds, but that rather ruined the atmosphere.

*And why did it disappear?*

Because he didn't want to risk getting caught by an angry Nazgul. And he stayed away because... well, that for legends to explore. I left that open to everyone's imagination.

Thanks again,

Cute and colorful. I liked the descriptors. This was a very nicely done tale of a very minor character who gives one to the Wraiths.

Author Reply: Hey, thanks! A *very* minor character in the film, but in my eyes, no cat can ever be minor, hehe.
