I was meaning to read this a long time ago... but I got caught up in other things.
I loved seeing how Cirdan's relationship has progressed from 'The Prince and the Shipwright'.
I cracked up terribly at-
'but he did not fancy having to explain how the child had managed to flatten himself against a wall while in his care.'
Err... not because Ereinion flattened against a wall is funny, but Cirdan trying to explain it is. I think.
Ha! Of course Cirdan trims his beard. It seems no one else ever wants to refer to that. Can't imagine why.

Since reading 'The Prince and the Shipwright' I have read a few other Cirdan stories, but your Cirdan is still my favorite, by far.
