This is really lovely. I like the way you portray how much all the others care about Pippin, and the jump forward to Pippin and little Faramir at the end is very effective.

Very nice closing, although I do think Pippin could have been a bit gentler with Faramir -- especially given all the care Merry, Frodo and Gandalf had shown him over the years. Thank you for posting this! Author Reply: I thought of that, but I wanted to show that Pippin was really distracted with his memories, and the effects of everything that had happened to him. Also, I picture Faramir a lot like his father, full of questions and hard to put to sleep!

Pippin wasn't the only one to shed a few tears in this chapter! Very nicely written. I could really hear him when he talked about being "broken". Lovely portrayal of Gandalf as the comforter too.

Very cool that you let Pippin be the one to hear something first. Hobbit ears are good for something :)

I liked that! I great way to see you Pippin canquer his "monsters" and get the courage before he faces even bigger ones! I loved the conversation between Pippin and Gandalf, it was wonderful! I like that Pippin opened up and spoke with Gandalf when he wouldn't with anyone else. Thank you! Author Reply: Thank you! I think the hobbits thought of Gandalf rather like a grandfather, and it seems easier to talk to someone who is a little bit distanced from ourselves. Especially one who has seen as much as Gandalf!

Lovely story. I like the way the entire Fellowship rallies around Pippin, and how they miss his pranks and chatter. I loved the way Gandalf knew that all he needed was reassurance that he was not a coward. And I got a real kick out of Sam being in on Pip's prank on Merry. And the little epilogue with Faramir and Merry brought it full circle. Author Reply: Oh, thank you! I picture Sam as being a very mature hobbit who sees things from a bit different perspective than the others. After all, he has brothers and sisters, and sometimes mischief is the best medicine!

A beautiful story. I enjoyed every word of it. Hope you are planning to write more of these. I shall look forward to them. Author Reply: Thank you very much! I hope you enjoy my other attempts as much as this one!

Oh, but I liked this one! The way you wrote the characters, and especially the hobbits, was perfect, true to book and even the film. There were a lot of little details I liked in terms of interactions and the last part was a wonderful continuation and tie-in. Family and friends do help one face monsters... -Laura Author Reply: Thank you! That is one of the highest praises I could ever ask for!

“I will speak with him when we stop for the night. And let us see if he will refuse to have words with me.” I love this line. I can imagine Gandlaf saying this and I love how you have written him to this point. All of the characters in this are so true to Tolkien and the descriptions are very vivid.
