The Scouring of Bag End  by Tialys 5 Review(s)

This is one of my favorite parts in "The Return of the King," especially because of Frodo's timid actions to Saruman and Wormtongue; but Sam also earns credit in the books, for he was the one who saved the Ring and Frodo many times.

You write exceeding well, and I wish I could someday write like you or someone else, but my time will come. Good job! I hope to see more.

Author Reply: I love this part of the books, too, and wish it had been in the movies. Wow - thank you so much for your comments! For more, you can read my other stories here. You should try or keep writing if you have already started, as the best way to improve is to keep doing it. Thanks again for your review!

Very interesting story. I particularly like those that can shed more or a different light on a passage from the Text and you have done brilliant job here. My only complaint is that the ending is so good, it almost makes the rest of the story unnecessary.

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks! I was worried about the ending ^_^

I really enjoyed this - a well-known scene from a different perspective. When well written, those are always good, and this was definitely well written. The idea that it was in fact Sam who suggested the pity on Wormtongue was clever. I suppose he may have understood Grima's position. Fantastic story :)

Author Reply: Thanks! I love writing scenes like this. I think Sam would have changed enough to understand, especially after Gollum, that Wormtongue was to be pitied. Glad you liked it ^_^

Isn't it awful. You've been back to your peaceful homeland and still the darkness follows you? Poor Frodo.

Author Reply: Oh, I know. I was disappointed The Scouring wasn't in the movie. *Sigh* Poor Frodo indeed.

This is a terrific 'fleshing out' of that scene. I especially love, "Sam lifted himself off the broken wizard, taking care to push off mostly with the knee he held against the Istari’s chest." The end, where Sam gives Wormtongue one last chance -- one last thing to think about -- is wonderful.

Author Reply: Thank you. I've figured out that I love 'fleshing out' book scenes, so I will probably be doing more of them. I'm glad you enjoyed the end -- I wasn't sure about it. Thanks!
