Oh, wow. I have to say, this fanfic has one of the most poignant, perfect ending lines I've ever read: When sleep claimed him, he welcomed its embrace, the tears falling from his eyes dampening the soft curls next to him. And knew, as the taste of tears lingered on his lips, why that far-away ocean tasted of salt. Wow. Wow. And ow. The idea of Frodo and Pippin being alone is so sad, but makes so much sense. It would take Pip a longer time than Merry or Sam to adjust, since he left before he was an adult--before he'd finished learning to live. I'm glad Pippin eventually finds Diamond, but this makes it even more sad that Frodo leaves by himself. *sniff, sniff* Where's Sam and his hankies when you need them?? Great job, just marvelous.

Wow. Your Sam is marvellous, and your exploration of Frodo and Pippin is fascinating. Well written and well thought out - very effective.

This is such a sad story - it brought tears to my eyes. I really appreciated how neither Sam nor Merry (usually written as the protectors and/or caregivers) could understand Pippin's struggle, how they, despite the help and care they do extend, have to ultimately stand on the sidelines while Frodo moves in as the empathetic caregiver. I don't quite see Merry as crying (that is the only quibble I have with this), but his baffled, sympathetic distress otherwise feels right. It would be interesting to see a follow up focussed on Pippin and Frodo, although of course the current story can stand on its own quite well.

This is wonderful. I hope you don't leave it here--I'd like to see another sequel. You know I totally agree with you in your take on Merry and Sam being so much alike; I had not given as much thought, though to the similarities of Frodo and Pippin. You have given us a very thought-provoking and touching story.

If possible, this story was even better than its prequel. Every word is so wonderful, and I loved it. I think I already said how interesting I found the similarities you've drawn between Pippin and Frodo, and in this story, you've done it again with Merry and Sam. I suppose neither of them really know what to do. I really respect authors who can write such moving pieces. Fantastic work :)

This is very good. I have read other stories in the past that have delt with the nightmares and the trouble that the hobbits had re-adjusting to life in The Shire, but yours is so wonderful done! I could see the ants making their way up Pippin's hand and could feel the pain that Sam was feeling as he tried to help everyone. I hope there will be more.

Oh, how sad this is. The image of Frodo and Pippin being alone even among friend is heart-wrenching. Poor Pippin. He grew up on the quest but he still is a child in the eyes of hobbit custom. Now he doesn't fit anywhere. No wonder he's depressed. I just want to make everything all right for him. But no one can make everything fine for anyone all the time. I'm rambling, but not really saying much, jeez. Oh, please keep up these stories. I really love your characterization of Pippin. The other characters are good, too, but he's my favorite. Thanks. Connie.
