Lovely! Merry and Sam are so sweet, to make all that for all of the wounded in the HOH. You write a very good OC, too. Thanks for the lovely tale!

Wonderful! I'd like to see how the injured take being offered tomato soup by a pair of hobbits someday too. (And now I'm all hungry...)

Wodnerful! I had thought that they were making soup for Frodo! It seems appropriate that Merry and Sam would notice the cooks exhaustion and want to help with those who were wounded! Thank you for such a sweet tale!

This was such an adorable tale....I wonder if there is a hobbit cookbook available somewhere?

Oh, what a clever title. hehe. And what a emm...delicious story! I especially liked how you added little human touches in, like mentioning the unavoidable stream of gossip surrounding the hobbits that must have been being spoken in every whichway, and how people had whispered of Merry being an heir to a great lord (great lord? wouldn't Saradoc be pleased!) so she looked at him with a different light, but then came to find all hobbits equally personable, no matter their station. Very delightful. Good work!

Hehehehe, I loved the title. I love puns, especially clever ones :P That was a very sweet gesture on both hobbits' account, and I liked the way you used the cook's point of view. I always enjoy reading what other the other people of Middle-Earth thought about the hobbits. Tomato and leek soup...sounds interesting. Don't suppose you have the recipe? :P

This was a great little story, and it was nice to se a Sam and Merry story too. Well done! Author Reply: Sam and Merry don't get a lot of 'screentime' together, do they? Thanks for your review.

A very nice cooking lesson! I liked your character of the cook also. She was very sweet. Author Reply: Thanks, I was worried she was too close to being the dreaded MS.

Laughing in delight. I love your cook and your hobbits and your little touches (Sam's unconscious deferential tone towards Merry, for example). The soup sounds delicious, is that all there is to it? Just cook it as described in the story? Hobbits show appreciation thorugh cooking. Sounds appropriate. Have a bowl of Mayor Sam's Famous Mushroom Soup on me! Author Reply: Pretty much, though hobbits couldn't use a blender. Its a pretty quick soup, taking less than half an hour start to finish, so its a great choice for Merry and Sam to make. Its also very tasty, especially with a little soup cream. Glad you enjoyed the story and thanks for the Mushroom Soup - I can eat soup anywhere, anytime!

I absolutely *love* this. Actually I love hobbits cooking in stories, and like to show it. It makes me think I may write up a little cooking story that I've had in mind. How about the recipe for that soup? Author Reply: 2 leeks, cleaned and chopped 1/4 lb. carrots, chopped 4 tbsp. unsalted butter or margarine 2 lbs. tomatoes, chopped 1 1/2 cup tomatoe juice 4 cups chicken broth 1/2 tsp. thyme 1. Melt butter. Saute leeks and carrots until softened. 2. Add tomatoes, tomato juice, broth and thyme. Add salt to taste. 3. Simmer 20 minutes. 4. Puree in blender.
