I really like this story, it really drives home the harm that the silmarils could do to anyone. Maglor's reactions were scary, almost senile at times, and his desperate relief at Elros's choosing mortality was particularly renching. I think Maglor would have committed suicide himself if he thought it would have meant an end to the cycle.

[I read this story for the first time during the recent MEFAwards. The story was touching and soulful, and I wanted to share my comment with you, just in case you haven't read the MEFA site. Great stuff.] "This is a hushed and soul-rending moment, including strong characterizations of both Maglor and Elros. I could feel distinctly the energy and optimism of Elros, and the utter pathos and loneliness of Maglor. Beautiful short piece."

Ah, this was so interesting and different from anything I've read before. Maglor's always been my favorite son of Feanor, so I deeply enjoyed this. You show his madness vividly. The way you wrote it, it was... enthralling. Author Reply: Thank you Kitt! I'm so pleased that you like it. I can't say Maglor is my favourite son of Feanor, but given how much I like all seven of them, he does hold a rather dear place in my heart. Dangerous guys, all of them. I vividly remember thinking that this story was going to be about *Elros*. That was before I started writing it. Gladness, Nol.

Ooh, I do like this. You've managed to capture Maglor's madness very well, what with the confusion over time, the reversion to the simplicity of childhood, and the still powerful singing skill that survives the breakdown of the mind. That his madness seems so real adds much to the tragedy of the story. You just gotta feel for both him and Elros, trying so hard to communicate across this foggy mental gap. Author Reply: *phew* Thank you. I was frankly more or less in the dark about how that would work, and this is most reassuring. I'm so glad you liked it - and yes. You gotta feel. :) Cheerio, Nol.
