Fill the Cup  by Bodkin 6 Review(s)

I like the ellyth, and they have names! You know, you are writing too fast for me to keep up :D These are all likable females, something it seems many have a hard time writing in Tolkien's world for some reason.

So Legolas is still besotted with his wife (good!) and she is willing to run off to the woods (even better!). And oh, I can't wait to see what kind of advice Celebrian and Galadriel have for her. I imagine it will be good.

Author Reply: It took simply hours to try to come up with some acceptable names! Elerrina is (apparently) Quenya for star-crowned. And Sirith is Sindarin for flowing, with the old 'iel' ending. And Miriwen is, I think, jewel-maiden.

I think their personalities have grown because they have been around in spirit before making their debut.

Would you not be willing to run off to the woods with Legolas?

Advice - hmmm - now I have to think of some!

yay we find out more about the blushing brides who captures our elves' hearts...miriwen sounds like such a fun character!

Author Reply: Miriwen is a strong elf! She is fun - and a rock for Elladan, I think. The others are rather more sheltered, but I wouldn't want to cross either of them. They could be tigresses in defence of those they love.

Now that was delicious - The wives will sort out the spiteful cats and the husbands will be none the wiser. Delicious interaction between the various partners, makes me feel all mushy.

Author Reply: There are things boys are good at - mostly involving weapons, quests and mud - and there are feminine specialities. Hopefully the wives will be able to sort the problem out without making things worse.

Glad you like the interaction - they are all developing their own personalities so they don't (I hope) just come out as arm candy.

This was cute. I have been torn because enjoy your stories with the boys interacting just them but I was curious about the ellyth to. This way we get to see both sides. I can't wait for these discussions once there are mischievous elflings.

I like all of the wives but my favorite is definitely Miriwen. She is withpout a doubt a Mirkwood elf. You made a great point about the type of wife Elladan would need. It is great that Miriwen and Elrohir's wife understand there closeness.

I was suprised Legolas fell in love with someone so sheltered but she obviously loves him very much. Maybe he saw the hidden potential that we will see now she is away from her family. It is a very good sign that she is willing to go to a new forest realm with hi.

Thanks for writing

Jule

Author Reply: Legolas's wife -(what's her name again? Shuffles pieces of paper to check it!)-Elerrina (means Star-crowned in Quenya) has only just joined the gang, so she is a bit reserved at the moment and most of her attention is just on the pure thrill of being married to him. During her visits before the wedding, she would have been bound to spend as much time as she could with her beloved and his friends' wives would have been a bit peripheral. Now she is in the process of building new bonds and alliances - and they are her first new friends.

I enjoy playing with these characters - they were rather shadowy, but they are developing real personalities. Miriwen is the strongest so far - she has had the most varied experience, while the other two have been cushioned by the safety of Valinor, but they are none of them feeble little girlies.

Legolas has had ellyth chasing him - as a prince, and as a really desirable elf, ever since he hit his majority. I tend to think one of the things that attracted him to Elerrina was the fact that she was REALLY, REALLY difficult to win - all the running and scheming and planning increased his passion for her about a hundredfold.

The wives speak! It's nice to get to know them. The twins' wives seem quite alike, and I like their empathy with the trees. Miriwen is very wise in realising that Elladan is always going to be closer to Elrohir than her - though I'm not sure about Elrohir. He seems so wrapped up in his beloved (sorry - I haven't got the names sorted yet) orcs could blunder past and he'd not notice.

I do hope that Legolas's wife will soon become more accepted - sadly, some of it the fault of her own parents' attitude. But Celebrian and Galadriel will kick them into gear!

Author Reply: YOU are having problems with the names - I have to have them written on a piece of paper in front of me! Except Miriwen - I can remember that one. Apparently Elerrina is Quenya for star-crowned. Sirithiel - well Sirith is flowing. It takes for ever to try to find names! And you can't have them all ending in -wen or -iel - it sounds too odd.

The twins' wives are both Sindar - with ties to Middle Earth, although different backgrounds. Elladan and Elrohir are always going to have that identical twin / together from birth / deep empathy thing - their wives had better get on well with each other and understand their bond or it could cause trouble. Elladan has been married a while longer - perhaps just long enough to be noticing that the outside world is still there. Elrohir's marriage is still rather all-consuming - and I think Legolas and his bride; well, it could be their first outing since their marriage.

I'm sure they will sort out the attitude problem - although it is worth noting that not all the awkward squad is Noldor. (Yet again Thranduil will need to be obliged to Celebrian and Galadriel - although he may not know it.)

I like these three, not surprisingly. It's hard to imagine what Valinor must have been like. They lived on in embodied ways just like in ME, but somehow hurts were healed etc. But obviously people could still be problematic (ie Feanor). And you could die in Valinor. It's not like our culture's idea of heaven. Hm. That takes some thinking.

Author Reply: Reflecting on what you say - makes me think of Switzerland in the nineteenth century. All those people going down with tuberculosis, who were sent to sanatoria in the mountains where the air was pure and clean and they could become well surrounded by beautiful scenery. Not Heaven heaven, but something else.

Any corporeal group of people are going to have trouble - the level changes, that's all. Not Dark Lords and torture, but people being spiteful round the tea table. One angel saying to another, 'I don't know what he sees in HER!'

(Get back to your writing - you've had enough of a break!)
