Ah- this is such fun! Blackberries and asparagus! Yum. This just gets right to the heart of those difficult relationships with significant others coming between children and paretns. And a lovely bit with Thranduil and legolas - Thranduil in the role of wise parent, and still mourning and yearning after all these years you would think the Valar would have mercy .... I am spending a very nice couple of hours reading all your Legolas fics- enjoying myself hugely! Thank you. Author Reply: Parents. Always a problem. Although now I'm coming at that from the other side! Legolas's father-in-law does have a bit of a problem with seeing him as good enough for his daughter - fairly standard behaviour there, I think! But surely he will come to appreciate the Wood elf in time! Thranduil is wise and loving - and really deserves to be reunited with his wife. Thank you. It's a long time since I've read this one - I'm glad you liked it.

I had to keep stopping to laugh. And then you left me with a laugh at the end. No wonder she's counting the days... (though I don't mind spinach and fish, and warm milk isn't so bad if you add chocolate to it... they don't have that consolation, do they?) Great dynamics. Wonder if my dh will really want to throw sons-in-law to the wolves... we have a few years yet. Fun! Thanks. Author Reply: Fathers do seem to have a bit of a problem with daughters' boyfriends - though they have mostly recovered before they get round to marrying. First boyfriends tend to cause bristling and an obsession with the clock. Very defensive. Those last days of pregnancy - after the nesting has passed - seem never ending and it must be even worse with twins. I felt a kind of obligation to adopt 21st century dietary advice (after a fashion). I'm sure elves would really feed the expectant mother a rich red wine - but, hey, spinach and fish and milk will be better for her! I'm glad it made you laugh - I thought the mother-in-law needed a chance to put her side.

Well, these two seem to be making progress but it's been my experience that people don't stop irritating one another just because they've decided to try not to be hostile. I was touched by Thranduil's memories of his wife and Legolas's lack of them. Author Reply: No, I suspect hackles will still rise - but at least they are trying, and they have both acknowledged that they are acting with Elerrina's care in mind. They have noticed they have something in common and they will soon have something else. If they start to look at each other as people rather than stereotypes it will help. Legolas has little personal experience of being mothered - must have had an effect on him. And Thranduil has been lonely for a long time.
