Thinking at Breakfast  by melilot hill 6 Review(s)

Oh, I liked this very much! I've only ever thought about this moment from Frodo's point of view, when he sees him running and singing and thinks that he's too young and innocent for what's to come - but I love this reminder that whilst Pippin is that young and innocent, he knows exactly what's going on. You captured his thoughts perfectly. :)

Author Reply: Thank you. I always thought Pippin knew a little more of what was to come than Frodo "gave him credit for" :)

I really love little gap-fillers like this. And so amusing that Pippin would do the very thing he scorned Frodo for doing. That's just like him.

Very enjoyable - thank you for sharing :)

I've always thought Pippin was doing more than just singing and running in this "scene".

This was wonderful. I love how Pippin decided to sing in order to cheer himself up. I thought his worry over what his family would think was also very good. Leaving them must have been very hard for him. You showed this beautifully.

I think that leaving his family just like that would be hard for him.

Very nice, and much like I have imagined it myself: frightened, yet determined not to show it for Frodo's sake, a bit homesick before he's ever left, and yet still able to think about the adventure of it as well. Good job!

I always thought that, at that point, Pippin wasn't as carefree anymore as Tolkien wrote him (singing and running over the green), hence this story.

This is very good. Pippin wondering about the effect it will all have on his family. His fear of the Black Riders and realizing that might just be a taste of what is ahead. Well done!

I think it must be very hard to leave your parents like that.

Oh, my poor darling Pippin! If he only knew! Talk about a babe in the woods. Thank you for this sweet glimpse of what the lad was thinking before he really got from the frying pan into the fire.

He could never have foreseen what would happen, which probably is a very good thing.
