Some Sort of Reality  by Sphinx 6 Review(s)

Not much to add from the beta, except that I really do like the Absurdist Quendi, and their conversation, although I do hate the maligning of my poor Mags. :) But this is beautiful writing. Thanks for doing this! Maybe we should start a 'represent India in fanfic' movement! :)

Love, S.

Author Reply: Absurdist Quendi send you their thanks for the hitting on the head.

although I do hate the maligning of my poor Mags.

Maligning? On the contrary, I made him as nice as I could. You must remember that Celeborn isnt the most non-judgemental person around. He has irate tendencies.

Maybe we should start a 'represent India in fanfic' movement!

Maybe we should. Take over, meister.

Thankses. For ebhrything. :D

Aah! I didn't know this was here! Wow! This is an amazing story. Isn't Maglor a git! I do like the idea of these three becoming drifters together through the centuries, and also of Maglor and Daeron not being quite so looney as they're often portrayed. One would hope that even they had reached some sort of healing and rebuilding by now, so I can see Maglor's point about Daeron not letting go of the past in his music. But I don't think it's much better just refusing to make music at all and then telling everyone how wonderful it would be if he did.

It's amazing - so sad and elegaic, but at the same time peppered through with these little humourous moments; like ‘I see, That you still preserve your…talent… for clarifying a point.' LOL! Maglor is droll but annoying, Daeron - aw - I just want to protect him, and Celeborn's the only sane one of the bunch. I like the fact that he gets to pick up the bill - a relic of Lordship, no doubt.

Thank you so much for this! It's so beautiful, and so original. Fabulous!

I just hope you did. *wibbles*

Hehehe. Well, there is a plus point to liking both Sindar and Noldor lords...I tend to see the good stuff in both. :D Although I'm not much of a fan of either Daeron or Maglor. Cel was Cel. Enough said.

'I see, That you still preserve your…talent… for clarifying a point.'

You do know that I simply HAD to make someone say that to Celeborn? *grin*

Celeborn's the only sane one of the bunch.

Hear, hear. I was hoping that came across.

In the end, I can only hope you enjoyed it. Your writing has been so much fun for me, and I've had such a great time talking to you.

Thanks!

S! Are you back?

This was glorious. Of course it was, because you wrote it. I love the description of the place, the environment. Home, for you. It was wonderful to see through their eyes, and yours. You wrote the sounds of this scene particularly well. I was just captivated by the prose -- kept getting caught up in it. I'm always in awe when someone takes black-and-white words, and writes sound.

I love the idea of these three elves meeting from time to time, exchanging insults and memories over coffee as our world bustles around them, oblivious. You wrote them so different, and so well. I love the juxposition of Maglor and Daeron, two of the great artist musicians of all the elves, who are nothing alike. And Celeborn, who I have never thought of as an artist, but who seems to bridge the gap between them.

I'm really babbling here, but this was wonderful, and I'm having a hard time finding the words to tell you. A multilayered, exquisite gem of a story. Breathtaking.

And it's so good to have you back!

Author Reply: Didnt you get my mail?!?

Erm. Yes. I'm baaaaaack.

*blushes at the review* Thank you.

They had to exchange insults and memory, you see. :) And Cel is a coffee addict. So there.

Celeborn is not an artist. He's not even trying to be an artists. He's just trying to keep two other artists from slitting each other's throats. *snicker*I'm sure the idea would have occured to either Daeron or Maglor sometime.

But I'm so glad you liked it!! And its great to hear from you. :D

Oh, wow. This was amazing. Poetic, without one wasted word, and completely engrossing. It's such an original premise, too. I love the picture of three Elves wandering through modern-day India. And I don't think I've ever seen another fic that shows Daeron and Maglor interacting.

Author Reply: Thanks, Ms. Whatsit! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

I was extremely surprised myself when I saw that no one had pursued the Maglor/Daeron storyline. I mean, here are the two greatest bards in the world, and canon has them meeting only once. Endless possibilities, that has.

Thank you for the review!

This came out beautifully, Sphinx and its a splendid idea. I like the world-weariness, yet at the same time 'interested' aspect of the characters. Each is distinct, yet there is a link - the fact that they are immortals living in a mortal world. Well done. Lindorien

I absolutely love stories like this. It's not just that it carries on with a theme in a most logical way, it's also well-written and well put together. I can see Celeborn changing with the world as the centuries and millennia turn. I can see him regarding all the changes of Arda with interest and finding them intriguing enough to stay around for it all. I certainly can't see either him or Maglor fading in the way Tolkien said all Elves left on Arda after the last ship sailed would fade. Celeborn for me is one of the strongest, yet most maligned characters. He always struck me as being incomplete but with infinite possibilities. He deserved better than constantly being labelled as Galadriel's partner by fan fiction writers. Maglor has always fascinated me too. He's a survivor and it stands to reason that he would survive the fading. I honestly can't see either Celeborn or Maglor settling down in the Paradise of the Elves and being satisfied, even if they were given their own realms to explore. Daeron is an interesting character but I honestly don't know much about him. He never stood out before. However, you've made an excellent foil for Celeborn and Maglor and turned him into something real.

Author Reply: Thank you! And what a nice review. :D

I'm actually a fan of the Celeborn-Returns-To-Valinor storyline, and the idea for this popped into my head as I was thinking about that. I certainly dont see either of the three of them 'fading' - they've gone through enough in their lives to carry on.

Celeborn for me is one of the strongest, yet most maligned characters. He always struck me as being incomplete but with infinite possibilities.

How true. And he isnt all that well documented in canon, unless a lot of inference is done. Galadriel does tend to hog the spotlight.;)

But I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I can make out from your review that you did. So, thank you!
