Wit and Wisdom  by maya_ar 7 Review(s)

I absolutely loved the tone of this, maya_ar! There is something intriguing about the third person narratation that makes me want to sit down and listen like Elboron. And the frame for the old fable; namely, the mischief of the child and the interaction between him and the two elders, was charming. You developed the characters of Eomer and Faramir just enough to work for the story without burdening the pace with unnecessary detail. All in all, a nice piece of story telling! Regards - Chathol-linn

Author Reply: Thank you - I had fun with this one. A bit of my own childhood here- I was lucky to have my grand-parents and parents tell me lots of fables, and it was one of the most magical parts of my early education.
cheers,

Love the presentation of Eomer, Faramir and Elboron - and the portrayal of the importance of story-telling in a largely oral culture.

Nice moral tale, too, and well-told.

I'm not surprised that Elboron was won over!

Author Reply: Hello,
Yes, it was fun doing the entertaining + educational bit with the story :-)
Actually, I suppose we learn something worthwhile from every good story. LoTR being a case in point...

A charming story! Good stories for kids are universal and transcend cultures, it would seem. You write an interesting Eomer.

Author Reply: Hi Raksha,
Eomer's an interesting bloke :-)
It is fascinating how a really good story seems to know no boundaries, huh? I mean, look at the huge worldwide following that Tolkien's books have won!

hi:) I really liked this story! It's nice and sweet and the three main characters all get handled so beautifully... also thought it was excellent how Eomner becomes the story-teller here, and how interestingly you've portrayed what must seem like a huge cultutral difference to a small boy like Elboron.

and you did pick a nice little story for Eomer to make his point:)

Author Reply: Hi Acacea,
Thanks - the culture of Rohan is terribly fascinating, and it's fun to compare and contrast with Gondor. The next chapter will hopefully have Faramir singing (if I can get the d*** verses to scan...)
cheers,
Maya
