To See Your Face Again  by Meldewen Ilce 7 Review(s)
Lasse-LantaReviewed Chapter: 1 on 7/23/2004
What a lovely thought put to words. This is so original, so touching (hand me the kleenex)I just loved it. It gives one a bit of hope for poor Arwen, Tolkien's final words about her are so heartwrenching and sad, almost cold, it's nice to see the joy you've portrayed.

Why thank you, Lasse-Lanta!

Yes, Arwen gave up everything for Aragorn and I'd like to think at the very least she was able to meet her uncle in the afterlife and in that way at least be able to see her father's face in the place Beyond the Circles of the World -though Elros will never quite be her father - but still he has the beloved face of her Ada...

Thank you so much!

Oh, this is a lovely little piece of comfort!

There is something wrong with this sentence:
Arwen could see her father’s face in his more easily than she could in his

(do you mean, perhaps, "than he could see in hers"? Don't know, but otherwise I'm not sure how to make sense of it)

Very powerful and imaginative writing. Somehow I hadn't thought of Arwen meeting her father's twin, but of course!

Author Reply: Oops - that is indeed what I meant!

Thanks for pointing that out, mellon-nin, and thanks for the kind words!

I will correct that sentence immediately!

I know I'm sentimental but I'm tearing up over this. I never thought of these three together and it's a wonderful thought.

Author Reply: Awwww, thanks, daw!

It was thanks to French Pony's lovely ficlet I first thought of Elros and Arwen meeting after her death and I can just see Aragorn having already been there a year arranging for her to meet her uncle...

It is a wonderful thought and I think it would bring them all some comfort, having found one another in a place where they least expected it!

Thanks again!

very touching. will you continue?

Author Reply: This will probably be it for this one unless I go back and write of Aragorn's first meeting with Elros...

Thanks for commenting!

The summary for this story, as I'm sure you could imagine, made me do a double-take, and right in the middle of work, too! Now, that was something I never thought I'd see in a summary!

Anyway, I really liked this. Elros seems just so cool and in control of the whole situation -- you can tell he's had plenty of time to accustom himself to the idea that something like this might happen, and he seems to get a kick out of seeing Aragorn and Arwen together. And her wonderment at seeing her father's twin brother, whom she would never have met, and sorta kinda getting some of her family back -- very nicely done. You can almost see that happy smile twitching at Elros's mouth, even as Aragorn and Arwen look utterly flabbergasted.

You know, I had a few ideas for potential epilogues for "Relativity," none of which I wrote because the story didn't seem to need any of them, and I wanted to save the ideas for where they'd be more useful, but this makes a delightful little companion piece.

Author Reply: Thanks for reading and commenting on this!

Yeah, after I read your story I literally saw Arwen in my mind standing before Elros, who of course in Iluvatar's Halls looks just as young as his twin does at that moment in the Blessed Realm and I could just hear her saying "Ada?"

And your story was great and just inspired me to write this - I mean you know Elros and Arwen had to have met one another when she arrived and heck I can even imagine Aragorn making sure they meet knowing how much it'd mean to her and to Elros...

And I am sure Elros had plenty of time to consider the fact he may one day see a member of his brother's household there as he knew Elrond's children would have the same choice they had to make.

Thank you so much!

Oh, what a good idea!

I never, ever even considered this possibility. But it makes sense. And somehow, it eases the sorrow a little bit.

Author Reply: Thanks - and the idea occured to me while I read French Pony's story last night, so I had to write this!
