My Dear Bandobras  by Le Rouret 9 Review(s)
LOTR loverReviewed Chapter: 37 on 9/9/2004
Oh. Oh, dear. Poor Eomer, when he finds out what he's done with this entirely innocent letter....

And that stupid girl! Took herself out, Nardanë, two horses, and probably the whole relationship between Cirdan's and Legolas's realms. I hope her stay in Mandos makes her grow up.

Well darnit, Nardane DID die, didn't she? Hopefully Laustaire had time to repent of her wickedness before the end there. *sigh*

I feel sorry for Legolas to recieve this letter, I really do. *shaking my head* I wanted her to be punished and made to apologize before she died, but maybe in Valinor she'll get her chance, one day.

So how IS this going to end? *curious*

So it is as I thought: they are both dead, and Laustaire did not only manage to kill herself with her stupidness, but Nardane as well. And mangaed probably to cause a lasting rift between Cirdans house and the one of Legolas... stupid, aggravating girl. What a sad outcome!!!

It is really sad for Legolas, though, because he will probably blame himself.

And as for the style this is written - greatly done, Le Rouret!!! Again!!!
Eomer in all innocence speaking of the dissoluted bethroal and that the differences between male and female should be surmountable, then in equal innocence asking Legolas to come and uidentify the two dead elves - this is a masterpiece of writing. It makes one want to scream - what an horrible end of this whiole affair!

I feel bad for Nardane. Although at the end I began to really dislike her when she tried to rescue the wedding at all costs even after what laustaire had done at the tornament, and despite of her own better knowledge that Laustaire was not good for anyone, much less for Legolas. And all this just because Cirdan had charged her with ensuring this union and she feared for her good graces with him! still, she did not deserve to come to an end like that. And the way she froze to death, holding the dead child... she really could not help herself; she must have felt toward the irritating elven teenager (well, fifty-ager, but apparently just about 16 in human years) like she was really her daughter.

Laustaire now hopefully will have a long, long stay in Mandos, I think, not only because of the harm she braught to others (namely to Nardane) with her thoughtless fit, but because her feá will probably need a few hunderd years just to get out of her angry stubborn pretense that is was all *the others fault*! Oh, well...

But I fear what Legolas reaction to the news shall be!

Great chapter Le Rouret, as ever!

*GASP* Uh-oh...this story has just suddenly taken a decidedly major plunge into serious "angst"! While I admit I wondered if the goofy-head...uh, I mean Laustairë, might be "killed off" eventually, still to read the details of it in Eomer's letter and to imagine the reaction from Legolas...well, you are probably getting sick of hearing me say it, but SAD!! Poor Legolas!! And knowing his gentle nature, he'll be guilt-ridden, I'm sure, even though knucklehead...uh, I mean Laustairë, knowing full well the conditions outside, made the choice herself to leave. If Legolas was in need of Bandobras before (which we know he was), how much more so now. Oh, his poor master!!! *SOB*

By the way, I loved the exchange between Aragorn and Arwen...especially considering they were in the same building!! That was great. And this business about Legolas being wanted at everybody's "laying in"...this is killing me!!! That was absolutely priceless, this idea of Legolas being the "midwife of choice" in the area! My, my, it adds such an interesting nuance to his already delightfully colorful and intriguing character.

I'm enjoying all the twists and turns of this story, chuckling at all the luscious, dry humor, and grimacing at the pain Legolas is going through...
and looking forward to more!

Oh man. Break my heart. Poor, poor Nardane, and yes, the brat too. Wickedly done, Le Rouret, lulling us into a sense of security with Eomer's prattle. I can just see Legolas reading the request for a midwife, with a pained expression, skimming the news from Rohan. Then - wham. The image you painted of Laustaire and Nardane was brutally beautiful. I just hope he wasn't alone when the letter came.

Gah.

Oh dear. There's something about Eomer not realizing just what news he is really giving Legolas that makes this all the sadder. I can see Legolas' reaction: shock, grief, guilt, as he reads these words, and yet the writer of the letter is utterly oblivious. Really it makes it very powerful, and I think is one of the best justifications for the format of this story that I've seen yet.

Well, I guess I'm less happy at the tramp's demise than I thought I would be. It really is sad, especially since Nardane died as well - and frozen while holding Laustaire so tenderly... so sad. Rather I wish that Laustaire had never been born, or at least never laid eyes on Legolas, than that she came to an end like this.

I also note the references to Legolas' midwife duties - couched in the usual elegant terms of the Rohirrim, I see. That prequel should be a doozy.

Well, that settles that. How sad that they came to such an end, and so pointlessly. This certainly falls under the category of 'death by stupidity.' It is a shame that she had to take that dear, loyal nurse of hers with her, who did no wrong in this other than accept that little brat as her charge, though maybe if she'd followed Gimli's advice on how to apply firm guidance this little brat might not have been such a spoiled, arrogant and self-absorbed horror. The great shame is that she killed to fine horses who did nothing but try to follow her demands. Nobody takes a draft cross out onto ice!

I hope that Legolas does not find some way to twist this and blame himself for it. I suppose he could always have locked her in her chambers, which I would have suggested had he found her intact. Little brat has brought such chaos and pain with her, and left even more in the wake of her passing.

Poor Nardane and poor horses....

Well! I do feel bad for Nardane. And I wonder if there will be repercussions from Mithlond for this.

I liked all the details about Rohan; some were very humorous and all filled out the story nicely.

Oh Le Rouret, you are wicked. Poor Nardane, poor horses, poor Legolas. I even feel a little sorry for Lustaire. Leggy is going to take this hard. Sniff. Who will comfort him? Oooh I love the angst! Another great chapter!!
