My Dear Bandobras  by Le Rouret 6 Review(s)

Hi!

I've just read this chapter again and had to wonder at Cirdans argumentation: was there ever any notable strife between the house of Cirdan and Oropher in the past? I thought Oropher fell out with Gil-Galad, not Cirdan, in the last alliance, save if Cirdan was by default included in Orophers disagreement with te Noldorin king. And how would a marriage between Cirdans charge and Legolas unite Noldor and Sindar elves? Wasn't Cirdan Teleri, meaning Sindar, himself? Also, what greater merge of the Sindar and Noldor Elves can there be as both the House of Elrond (who after all is a child of Earendil, grandson of Turgon, and Elwing, granddaughter of Luthien, the child of Elu Thingol himself) one one side and Celeborns union with Galadriel on the other?

Oh, well. After all, Cirdan just wants his little charge to get the best party currently avaiable in Middle Earth. Trying to use the friendship of Aragorn with Legolas to achieve this and to make usage of Aragorn in this is a nefarious and underhanded way, though. For shame, Cirdan!

Hi!

This is delightful reading, and a good continuation to the tory "The Green Knight" indeed. But I wonder why suddenly everybody in Middle Earth is so intent on getting poor Legolas married? They know - or at least his closest kin would do - that he is stricken by the sea-longingg and bound to leave soon for the undying lands, and so his rule in Ithilien will be a short time (well, for the elvis count odf time, anyway)only; and also, the Elves, in Tolkiens terms, are of a fading race and therefore unlikely to produce much offspring of this side of the sea. So, why harass the poor elf so in addition to his ailment? Do they *try* to drive him over the Sea sooner? If this goes on, Legolas will have to take the last resort to either banish all unwed elven ladies from his fiefdom unless they swear not to pursue him, or go to Aragorn and beg if his friend does not have some quiet, peacefull battlefield where he could take refuge until things have quitened.

Anyway, keep on writing, this is good!

Oh, no. Aragorn's getting sucked into the matchmaking, too! And Faramir as well! Poor Legolas. All forces are arrayed against him. We'll see how he fares, I guess.

...Oh, honestly - bugger off, Círdan. xD
I'm addicted to this story. And I thought I'd better pop in and tell you so!

Author Reply: "Bugger off"? Have you read "Pottymouth" perchance? ;-)

Well now that was an interesting letter. Out and out permission for Aragorn to give his blessing to all to scheme and plan for Legolas and this mystery Elf to fall in love and marry... Legolas would freak out if he knew out and I honestly DO think he'd run away and hide. LOL

Oh, now that is a low blow. I never expected Cirdan to get Aragorn mixed up in all this matchmaking. Hopefully he will send warning to Legolas, to help him be on his guard when Faramir introduces lady what's-her-name. Not that he really needs it, I guess, given that he knows very well what the intent of this party is.

Interesting that Cirdan is so eager to see Sindar and Noldor wed (surely the race isn't Quenyan). It's a nice idea, I guess, but there are lots of Sindarin and Silvan Elves in Ithilien. Legolas doesn't have to unite the races personally. Though I will concede that such a gesture might be appropriate, given that most folks believe that Thranduil married a Silvan elf. His son might follow in his footsteps so far as uniting the varied races goes, but it can wait. Until Valinor, preferably. Long, long after he reaches Valinor and Gimli dies. I'm thinking along the lines of millenia, here.

Author Reply: Ooops! I can't believe I didn't catch that -- don't worry, I've altered "Quenyar" to "Noldor" in the text. Can you tell my stories are posted completely un-betaed?

I always think Gimli gets the shaft in Legomances -- poor guy, I'd like to see HIM get the girl for once. Pathetic.

Run away, Legolas!
