The Pathway of Dreams (II)  by Nerdanel 3 Review(s)
LindorienReviewed Chapter: 1 on 8/1/2004
Personal favorite lines:

and laughter alight on the air
made his young heart soar unlike ever before;

they choked me up. Seriously. They make me want to go write a poem. Lindorien

Author Reply: Wow, I'm glad it made you want to go write a poem. Great poetry that I read incurs the same desire in me, so I thank you very much for the compliment!

In delight, my twins listened to this story, for it is a story. Here is what they have to say:

We had to look up selenite, sylph and nenuphar. We didn't understand selenite until we talked about it and decided you meant mooneams or like a path of light from earth to the moon.

It has a good rhyming thing. Sometimes the words were apart and sometimes together. They rolled like a story but still is a poem. It was playful and good for kids and grownups. We like how you wrote it. You should write more like these.

Lindorien here: there ya go. Unvarnished review from my 7 year olds who sat in rapt attention.

Author Reply: Hi, Lindorien! It means a lot to me that your seven-year-olds enjoyed it. Truly, children are the best literature critics. Just as George MacDonald and C.S. Lewis; they'll tell you the same thing. So if your kids like it, I am thoroughly content. Thank you so much for leaving their note on there! That truly means a lot to me. I am unsure about a lot of my poetry and this encourages me a lot.

P.S. A selenite is someone who lives on the moon.

This was lovely. I had read another version elsewhere, but this was flowed much more freely. I'm not usually fond of stories which turn out to be a dream, so I was delighted that the child's experience was true. Thank you for the beautiful poem.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Alassiel. I worked for several weeks on this poem, trying to get it to flow smoothly and be worded exactly right. So I am very glad that you liked it! That means a lot to me.
