Too Young  by Lindelea 6 Review(s)
EverlightReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 3/13/2014
Found this on fanfiction site over a year ago and am just getting around to posting a review.

This poem just breaks my heart with it simple language but powerful emotion. I can almost hear the desperation, grief and (perhaps, if I'm correct) pride in Merry 'voice'. His thought about being the only one to return home is absolutely heartbreaking.

Pippin lived an extraordinary life and rose to meet the challenges that came his way. He may have been 'too young' but it didn't stop him from doing what needed doing when was all said and done

Even the smallest of us can show extreme strenght and courage when needed.
Beautiful poem

I also thank you for putting a link to this one in Lifewatch. I "waste" more time reading here than I should, and even so there are so many wonderous pieces yet to be discovered. Reading this reminded me of a lady friend's reaction to seeing P.J.'s Return of the King. she said that the moment that really grabbed at her heart the most was when Pippin finds Merry wounded and left behind after the battle of the Pellenor. Pippin says that now he is going to look after Merry. My friend said that was the moment, for her, that said that our innocent, mischievious Pippin was finally growing up. Sad, yes, but also heartening and sweet. And I like the detail you put into your writing. I have never read anything of yours yet that I thought was too wordy.

And here I was thinking that I had read all your work Lindelea! Obviously not so thanks for putting a link to it. It is beautiful!

Beautifully evocative. Yes, too young, but thrust into extraordinary circumstances, Pippin has risen to the occasion. And Merry knows he cannot protect Pippin from his choices, which are so honorable.

Lovely writing, as usual.

I may have read this elsewhere, but I read it here and will happily respond . . . VWD!!!!! This is so succinct and so powerful. Exactly; how often had Pippin heard that? How often had Merry himself said that? And yet the youngling rises to meet the challenges. And the end with Merry's thought that he alone might return home is perfect. VWD!!!!!
