PS: I think, though I cannot swear to it that the punto culminante is the climax and the desenlace is the denoument, (which is French, but hey . .it's the word I use there) or possibly the resolution.

Author Reply: You are absolutely right! Thank you. That was going to drive me nutz. I never taught/took lit classes in english.

I'm at work at the moment - just to let you know that the fix job worked perfectly. All chapters are now easily readable. I'll have to go back and reread the ones I just skimmed - (if I can remember which ones they were!)

Aren't some people just brilliant with all the niggly computer details!

Author Reply: Cool, thanks for telling me because I would have been curious. Formatting thing are my bane. I can never figure them out and somebody always tells me this simple little fix. I am always happy when they do! I changed Chaps 1,13 and 18 FYI. I can tell by the dates so its easy for me to tell.

I loved this chapter - and it passed a whole year very quickly and with lots of interest.

It must have been a delight to see the back of Marti, but they are really not taking her seriously enough - just because she's an elleth doesn't mean she can be brushed off as no more of a problem than a horsefly.

Lindomiel is exceedingly sensible to learn her role before marrying Thranduil - a queen consort is going to have many more responsibilities than the niece of a king, but at least she is starting from a good level of understanding. She is also showing Thranduil's people her talents / caring nature / efficiency in advance of the wedding, which is good.

I love the image of Thranduil and Lindomiel suffering in the run-up to the wedding - able to get no more than glimpses of each other, while friends and acquaintances monopolise their time. And what a good way for Celeborn, Galadriel, Elrond and Celebrian to improve relations with Thranduil! Elrond clearly gets on with Celebrian's parents very well - wouldn't be able to say that much if he didn't - although there is a suggestion that he might have had Amglaur style problems at the time (now resolved). It seems a good way to improve relations with Galadriel as well!

And the kidnapping! What a good moment for the Nasty Elves to choose. They could scarcely have picked a time that would create more chaos. I hope they manage to retrieve Lindomiel soon - I'm looking forward to the wedding of the century!

I'm just imagining how poor Conuion feels - charged with trying to keep Thranduil and Amglaur safe and away from the search. I'll bet he'd rather face a pair of Balrogs.

(I'd just like to say how hilarious I find French Pony's reviews. I always look forward to reading them as well as the story!)

Author Reply: I'm glad you and others have liked this chapter ok. When my friend and I did the rewrite, one of the changes I resisted the most was cutting about four chapters out before this one that showed Lindomiel et al making some of the adaptations that are described in the first paragraphs here--you also saw Marti's first reaction to the betrothal (which I was loathe to cut because it was funny but I couldn't work it back in). My friend's comment was, "Get on with it" (in other words get the plot moving) and I think in the end she was right. You know, as I go to explain why I finally agreed with my friend I just realized I don't know the english terms for the words I want. The punto culminante and desenlace are closer together after the cuts and that makes a tighter story. Does anyone know the english equiv of those lit terms? Punto culminante is literally culminating point and desenlace is disentanglement but I'm sure that isn't how those words would be translated as literary terms. Sorry. English is going to fail me here.

Anyway, I agree that Lindomiel is showing her quality (as movieverse Sam might put it) by learning her role from the get go. It is beneficial to her, to her relationship with Thranduil and his family and to her relationship with Greenwood. That's one of the reasons Thranduil loves her--she has a brain and uses it.

I laughed myself at poor Lindomiel and Thranduil. This was how my wedding was. For a week before it, instead of being pampered as a bride should be, I was running around finishing the planning and driving my family around to tourist sights that they wanted to visit. I didn't see my hubbie for a week. It was mad. I wish I'd had an Elrond to provide me an escape. And as for Elrond, can you imagine courting Celeborn and Galadriel's daughter? There is just so much to that, it is great. Someone on Scribeoz is writing a challenge entry that also involves their courtship. It was for the LaCE challege posted in the forum there. Its called Alliance and its by SpaceWeavil. I like it so far and I think Elrond fans would too.

Yes, I feel sorry for Conuion too. Life is going to be unpleasant for him for a while. In addition to keeping Thranduil and Amglaur (who might be worse than Balrogs at the moment) safe, he is going to answer to the fact that Lindomiel is missing--he's the captain of Thranduil's guard. That is a position I would not want. Ever and especially now.

We will soon see what has happened to our missing bride. I'm not good at cliffhangers. I'm a very impatient person. But Marti's back is something we have not seen entirely yet and that is one tale that will be long in the telling. Her role has only just begun.

And yes, I love French Pony's reviews. I love everyone's reviews but hers make me laugh everytime. I've learned some stuff from them too--like about Indian films.

Dun dun DUN!

Interesting that Marti would choose Lindomiel's not being a native of Mirkwood to focus on, niggling over when Lindomiel might get the right to use the royal crest. I know it's just that one little thing that she can use as a focal point for her basic sexual jealousy, but it's an odd thing to choose. She doesn't seem to give a rat's patootie about politics otherwise.

Not very wise of the royal household to let Marti go without someone keeping an eye on her. They didn't actually deal with her, though they may have thought they did, and it's coming back to bite them now.

I like the way Lindomiel spends her betrothal period actually planning out what her future role in the court will be and getting to know her new circle of associates. That's a wise thing to do, especially if one is marrying a sitting ruler in a politically fluid era, and a sign that she's orders of magnitude more mature than some very young brides of major royalty in the past twenty-five years I could name *coughPrincessDianacough*.

The wedding sounds like it'll be a fun time, assuming they can locate the bride, who is, after all, the Main Event. Although all signs point to a nefarious Elfnapping by Your Friend And Mine and her sidekick Tulus, I'm still holding out for the gripping, tragic tale of a hen party gone horribly wrong. Lindomiel and her bridesmaids could be halfway to Vegas by now, having consumed a little too much champagne and suddenly deciding to have one last fling, only to see it changed by circumstance into a terrifying multi-land bank robbery spree.

But it's probably something like bridenapping. Oh well. Thranduil is a smart cookie, and the guest list contains further smart cookies, and I'm sure they'll be able to find her, and then have a lovely, if delayed, wedding. And it'll be something they can laugh about in centuries to come, thoroughly embarrassing Legolas of course.

Author Reply: As Bodkin says above--your reviews are priceless. I get up earlier than my hubbie because I have a longer drive than him and I read a little fic over breakfast. This morning, reading your review, I have my hands clamped over my mouth not to awaken hubbie. You would think I would learn.

It is interesting what Marti focuses on to get angry about isn't it?

Yes, Lindomiel is being very mature in her prep for marrying someone like Thranduil and smart too. If she doesn't want to sit alone in a tree somewhere while those around her work and build resentment over the fact that she is not helping, she had better find a place for herself. Being raised in court, she has some clue how to do that and Thranduil and Dieneryn are obviously willing to help. But Lindomiel has bit of her father in her too.

I think some of the dialogue in the next chapter shows the royal guards, if not the family, have a little more clue about Marti's whereabouts. Question is, will that help them any?

I am simply laughing too hard about the images created by the idea of the 'hen party' and elven excursion to the Middle Earth version of Vegas to make any comment. Thank you for the review and laugh!

This is a really interesting story! I just read it, and have been enjoying how you draw the characters and the way they interact. This last chapter especially, I enjoyed the conspiracy between Elrond & Celebrķan and Celeborn & Galadriel to get the betrothed couple together. So funny and so sweet! (Oh, there's a typo: I'm sure you didn't really mean that Elrond and CeleBORN had been married only thirty years? That would be rather... awkward... ;-D )

What a cliffhanger ending! I was outraged that Marti (presumably) would destroy a work of art that Lindomiel had put so much time and effort and heart into, but now that we know that Lindomiel is missing... well, I hope you post the next chapter soon!

P.S. When you put such a long line of asterisks (***) in your story, it causes the browser window to become very wide, and forces your readers to have to scroll left and right... I'd suggest that you either put spaces in your asterisk divider (so it will wrap to the window size), or shorten it significantly.

Author Reply: Thank you sooo much for pointing out the typo. That was definitely an important one to fix--done. And also thanks for the clue about the asterisks. Bodkin had told me some chapters do that scrolling thing. I don't see it in my browser but I also have a really fancy video card because I do a lot of graphic editing so I wouldn't necessarily see the scrolling. I really hate it when stories are badly formated like that so I took out the asterisks and I will go back and do that in all the chapters that have them. Hopefully that will solve the mystery of the bad formatting. Thanks!!

I'm glad you found the story and that you have enjoyed it so far. It is the first in a long series as you probably figured out already. The series covers a lot of ground so there are probably parts that will be more interesting than others to you. But I hope you keep checking back.

I like to play with how these characters interact. My specialty when I taught literature was drama so interaction through dialogue is fun for me. I'm glad you liked them so far. They will develop as the story progresses.

Marti will continue to outrage both you and the royal family of Greenwood. :)

Thank you so much for the review. I love hearing anything that people want to comment on. It is so interesting to me to post stories like this and talk about them.

Oh goody. I've been checking periodically for this update.

So I thought we had seen the last of Marti, but now I'm not so sure. That was a frightening turn of events.

Before that, I was all amused by the Elrond/Celebrian/Celeborn/Galadriel scheme. They were funny, and diplomatic, and generous. And it will all stand them in good political stead, assuming the bride can be found.

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked Elrond's family's little scheme. When I got married I had a small wedding but even still, once the family arrived in the house it was take this one to the race track and the kids to Disney and can we go to the beach...they had a vacation, I had a nervous breakdown. I wished someone like Elrond would have helped to seclude me and my betrothed away for a few hours. :) I had a lot of fun writing that. Thanks for the review.
