I'm already looking forward to the next chapter of this story. I, like you, read Baylor's stories first, and took them for canon from there on. They, more than anything next to the Professor's own words, influenced my writing. What a pleasant surprise to see the promise ritual played out in this story! Am so looking forward to more!

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed it! ^_^ I'm drawing a bit from Baylor in my OC story "The Fellowship of the Greenholms". More precisely, I WILL be. Winter sickness, children getting stuck in barrels trying to imitate the dwarves escaping the Wood Elves in The Hobbit (although NOT in the actual palace of Thranduil), Legolas saving children from trees...IF she gives permission, that is. I am fully in favor of asking before you use someone's idea, even if you do credit them.

But, yeah! I'm glad you enjoyed it. More should be coming soon, unless it's delayed by the story I'm writing for MarigoldG's challenge #9...That one is going to take awhile. *glares at long plot bunny*

" . . . . he sent a smoke ring into Pippin's face, starting an all-out smoke war between the three of us. "

Very nice. This is very much your own line, I think? Very fun and I can just picture them puffing away.

That idea of trying to quit smoking is rather modern, though . . .

Happy typing,

Esamen

Author Reply: Very much my own line, indeed. I love the image it presents. ^_^

As to the idea of quitting smoking...you know that today various fads arise pertaining to health and so forth - "The Pork Diet" could possibly be one someday. ^_^ But those sorts of things have been going around ever since forever, I think, and so the idea of quitting smoking is (in Middle-Earth) probably just that: a fad that most people don't believe or fall in with.

Freddie just seemed like the sort of person to try a fad like that. ^_^

Many Thanks for your wonderful reviews!

Ah, lovely work. I just love visiting ME through a good fic like this. I'd live there forever if I could.

Yes, I can see the influence of Baylor's Pippin in your writing. Baylor influenced my Pippin a lot too . . . I just love that delicious tender feeling I get when I read that particular relationship. I wrote my own Pippin very similarly, and I got a review from Ariel saying that I was writing Pippin a little young, that he was really a bit more mature than this, if you study the dates in the books carefully.

However, I still enjoy the tender moments, and I wouldn't change them for the world! Congratulations, and please write more! I'm adding you to my favorite authors list right now!

Author Reply: Well, we must remember that Pippin WAS only 28 at the start of the quest (if my memory serves correctly), which would make him still a few years away from his coming of age. Going on that thought, I tend to write my Hobbits as a little more immature than they would be at that age as humans.

Anyhow, I'm glad you like the tender moments. Personally, I believe Pippin is one of those people who never really grows up. True, he matured alot in LotR, but I think of him as being a very...childish adult, even as he got older. I still have to have a good-night kiss from my Mama every night, and I'm 18. So I think Pippin's allowed to ask for a story and climb into Merry's bed. ^_^

I'm hoping to finish soon - keep bugging me via e-mail about it and I probably will!

Fantastic story! Very well done! I love it!

You've got great writing, great Tolkien style, and great feeling for our beloved hobbits. This is the best new fic I have read for a while. Please, post more! I just love this!

And I'm going to ask about the "Mr. Pippin" issue. I am really astounded at the scholarship I'm finding here. Bows and blown kisses!

Author Reply: *blush* Well, I'm honored and deeply touched by your sentiments. I'm a bit insecure when it comes to the quality of my writing, but the reviews here seem to just re-iterate (sp?) what my wonderful grandmother and my wonderful beta have been saying all along.

And here I thought they were biased. ^_^

I hope the e-mail I sent you is coherent. I'm in a bit of a rush, but I did my best. Smiles and salutes, and have a Valar blessed day!

Now this little story is shaping up nicely. I love reading *other* folk's take on the famous conspiracy. I particularly enjoy the changing POV, from one to the other. You've captured all their voices very well.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Dreamflower! My dear beta has told me many times that I'm doing a good job, but I sometimes have a fear that she's a bit biased. ^_^ Even though I know she isn't.

There's only one or two chapters left - I have to decide whether or not to do a "Frodo" chapter. It would probably be just him and Merry talking before they go to sleep on the night of the "big reveal". But I might not do that. XD We'll see what happens, eh?
