To the Sea  by Avon 5 Review(s)

I am avoiding work this morning and I happened across this quadruple drabble--I love it. I thought just the idea of Legolas and Eldarion making the little boats was very clever. But Legolas's description of the sea was wonderful and the concluding thoughts about Eldarion were very touching. Good job!

I did like the last line of this. And I can just imagine Aragorn's reaction to Eldarion coming home wet and muddy :)

Nicely done, Avon. I liked how a simple act of sailing toy boats led to a powerful display of the sea-longing affliction. Some very good imagery here, as well. The gulls' call described as a "cry like lost souls" is my favorite. The last sentence is poetic and strong. Good job!

Author Reply: Thank you! I think the description of the shore does owe a little to my favourite children's author, Monica Edwards. Half of her books were set on the Sussex coast and she does beautiful descriptions.

Hmmm...I was trying to pick a favorite phrase or image, but there were so many. Some of the lines were just beautifully descriptive and some were just so poignant. Very nicely done and an interesting glimpse of what Aragorn's children might mean to Legolas.

Author Reply: Thanks, Songspinner. I wrote this a while ago for someone's birthday and then 'lost' it. I found it yesterday while trying to tidy up my computer and decided that I quite liked it. To me one of the reasons that Legolas wouldn't have had children was to spare them the pull between two worlds that he was caught - so he could enjoy Aragorn's.

A very nice tale. Legolas's description of the sea is simply beautiful, and I like this image of him as a loving 'uncle' to Eldarion.

Author Reply: Thanks, Jay. Being a lover of happy endings I want to see him as getting to share Aragorn's kids.
