Hi, my friend sent me the link to these petucris. You have used two of my cake petucris, and I have to say, here in the UK, it is quite common to have something Different for your wedding cake. The dog cakes which I did two different ones last year as well, were actually the bride and grooms dogs. Big dog fans. The Suitcase wedding cake is quite a common cake here. Some times the bride and groom go abroad and get married, then come back and have the reception,so the suitcases are quiet apt. I personally wouldn't say they were over the top at all. I make all sorts of cake to suit everyone, that is why my diary is always full booked. I love making the different cakes, sometimes cakes can be so boring, 3 tier with flowers on not very individual at all, no imagination. So its a good job, there is such a nice wide choice out there to suit everyone.

Well, well, the Lady makes friends wherever she goes. :) Lovely short story with an in-joke! Merry might do well to take a hint from Faramir -- who was listening to the conversation, while making no comment, I do not doubt!! :)

Thank you, Regina.

I love this whole story - and it is so beautifully told from all the different points of view. In some ways I think this is my favourite chapter - although I'm not sure. It might just be that I read this last! I feel for the swordsmith - an enemy alien in a victorious land - and his delight at Faramir's words is just palpable. The characterisation is just great.

I always love stories where the writer remembers that Faramir loved music; which, in Middle-earth, probably means he could sing. This chapter really pushed my buttons - Faramir singing a love song and attracting much attention and admiration, especially from Eomyn! Sigh. (I luv Faramir, can you tell?) The minstrels' viewpoint is very well done too, particularly the very real detail of their frustration in not being summoned to the Field of Cormallen to play for the King. Hopefully, with Faramir as Steward, they'll still get plenty of bookings, as well as a chance to play for the King.

I loved this story when I read it over at Emyn Arnen. There are not enough average Gondorian POV stories out there (tough to write, no doubt!). I particularly liked the inclusion of the swordmaker, as it is realistic that one would merchants from very different cultures in a metropolis like Minas Tirith.

RAKSHA THE DEMONReviewed Chapter: 9 on 10/12/2004
This is a lovely story, fresh and buoyant as the atmosphere at the Fair.

My only quibble comes for this chapter; and it's very minor - the animal merchant has spaniel puppies. I don't think that Spaniels were developed as hunting breeds before the use of guns for hunting became common (neither were Retrievers, Pointers or Setters). But the scene with Merry wanting and buying the little bitch pup was wonderful; hopefully a good dog is prized in the Shire.

Author Reply: Just as a FYI regarding the spaniel puppy--in fact, small spaniels (similar to today's Cavalier King Charles Spaniels) were bred from medieval times forward as little lapdogs & comforters for royalty & nobility. They were very popular in Tudor times, often painted with their owners. So try to picture a pretty lapdog suitable for a lady of the court, not a bigger gundog. I actually had a great deal of trouble finding a good breed to allude to, since so many are modern. Thought this was the best choice out there. :-)

Am very glad you enjoyed it a lot! I'm curious now to hear what you thought of some of the other chapters, if you would be so kind. :-)

I read this story when it was on the Mithril Awards list. I loved it then and love it now too. You so such a good job of presenting rounded views of these characters through these little glimpses.

Author Reply: (Beams happily). Glad you love it! I think in some ways this one was the most fun to write of all my stories--it was great to invent so many different backgrounds for the characters.

Thank you for your review, daw! :-)
