This is such a cute story. You portray the little bird Niben very well: he does have personality! I also really like the way you framed it as a bedtime story. Are you going to write any more like this? Please? Nerdanel Author Reply: Hi, Nerdanel. I'm glad you liked my birdie. As for writing more, I don't know... *scratches head* Depends on my muse (mews). Pardon if I take my own meaning from this... because heros do come in all shapes and sizes - and while some have feathers, some have furry feet. ;) Author Reply: Hi Ariel. and while some have feathers, some have furry feet. Actually, I was aiming at that. I'm glad that you picked it up. ;) Werecat

What a lovely (though strangely cat-free) story. Beautiful Arwen cameo - and very sad reminder of her division from her Adar. Author Reply: Hi, Bodkin, and thank you for reading. *chuckle* Yes, this is a cat-free story (although Niben mentions somewhere a "monstrous sea-cat, because that's his idea of a scary monster). I love birds too, especially sparrows. And I'm glad you liked the Arwen cameo; it came to me while writing and I wasn't sure if it fitted the atmosphere of the story. Thanks again for reading, Werecat

Oh, what a lovely tale. I like your sparrow very much, and he is very much one of those small ones who shapes the world while the wise are perhaps busy elsewhere. Nicely framed as a bedtime tale with Arwen, Aragorn and Eldarion too. Author Reply: Thank you, Nilmandra, for reading and for your kind words. I had a feeling you'd like this. Perhaps read it to Merry at nights? ;) while the wise are perhaps busy elsewhere Ah, yes. That too bugged me for a long time... Thanks again, Werecat

Now that is a simply wonderful story. For some reason, and I really can't imagine why because it is really a happy story, it has me crying. When you posted in the Yahoo group about wanting more words for birds' activities, I made a note to read whatever you posted because I am a big bird watcher (almost 1000 birds on my life list--I've made trips to foreign countries to see one bird). Also, I love Radagast, so I figured I'd like you story. But this far exceeded my expectations. You have created a delightful myth here. I loved the seal and the dolphins helping the the little sparrow across the sea. And Cirdan recognizing his importance. But the sparrow's personality is adorable. And the 'moral' was so Tolkien--'for heroes come in all shapes and sizes.' How true that they do throughout Tolkien's works and what I wonderful tales for Elrond to tell Arwen and Arwen to tell Eldarion. I absolutely loved this. Great job. Author Reply: Hi, Elliska, and thank you for reading. I was SO happy to find all those reviews in my inbox! I'm glad you liked it. I've always loved birds, although I'm not in bird-watching. I'm into cleaning budgie and lovebird cages. (five and two) The bedtime story element did not appear until later in the story. One of those cases that the story takes a life of its own... Anyway, thank again for reading! I will reply the rest of your reviews shortly. Werecat
